bounty29,
...don't shit in a bucket, it's really not worth it.
Well you find me a better way to collect it then!

jaykush,
the risks outweigh the benefits go buy some bat shit.
how is a bats turd any less harmful? the turd is coming from me to begin with so i know my body has accepted it, plus you have to pay for bat turd whereas mine is free

Yours also has god knows how many preservatives, chemicals, and shit that isn't in animal shit. If you're on a 100% organic diet, then I'd say your shit is good to go, but unless you put nothing but natural ingredients in your body, I'd stay away from the idea.

Parasites and diseases which attack humans are in our waste. It requires extremely high temperatures to kill these ( proper composting not shitting in a bucket) now im not saying this cant be done, theres a huge bio-solids industry. but on a personal scale i don't see any benefits. bats eat insects and fruit and there body processes it a lot better than we do.

bat guano can be unsafe if used improperly just like anything else. don't go making clouds of guano dust and take huge whiffs of it obviously. the chances of you getting sick from your guano is slim to none. plus bat guano is cheap i got 2.5 lbs for 7$.

If you really go for it, please post pics lol... nah, just kidding, but seriously, what if someone comes across your bucket full of shit? How are you going to explain that?

Also, I'm going to say it one more time: human feces can carry pathogens. Almost everyone who posted in this thread brought up this point, so please be careful.

Best of luck buddy :D

Well im still gonna give it a go. Somebody should, I still can't believe it hasn't been done before, it just seems so obvious to me to try it because its FREE! and easily obtainable - free delivery lol

I have a feeling that before the year is out you'll all be thanking me for showing you a cheaper and more organic way to grow, and one that doesnt involve anything funky like bat guano. I just need 3 weeks veg, 8 weeks flowering and you will see. Im just waiting for my turd to break down into a suitable compost and i'll be ready to rock, so hopefully within the next few weeks, but im not too sure how long itll take, will be interesting to find out. Im guessing 1-2 months? ive never even made normal (non-turd) compost before though so im stabbing in the dark a bit

Im keeping all the turds in a wide bucket (to allow more surface area) with a wet towel on the top (to keep the warmth in but still let it breathe) in a room with a heater going to keep the temperature up but the window open to help get rid of the smell, but it still stinks heaps. If youve got an outdoor shed use that instead

If you're serious, good luck, because you're going to need it.

I think human guano is a little more funky than bat guano.

How can you be ok with having your shit sit in a bucket in your house? :fsu:

don't forget the best way to mix manure is by hand so we don't want you cheating or cutting corners, if you're doing this as a serious experiment and you're gonna do a diary we want step by step pics from squat to finish

ok well its actually starting to break down well now and i think ill be able to start using it in about a week or so, it wont be perfectly broken down but should be sufficient, i just hope it doesnt burn the seedlings but we'll soon see! :)

So is anybody else trying this method yet?

I have put some turd in the middle of the compost im making from a mix of rabbit manure, plant parts from the garden mixed with soil.
As long as its only used in smaller parts and its hot compostated with the rest, i see no problem in it.
I let it compost normally with worms etc atm, but at the end i let it hot compost to kill any weed seeds remaining, parasites from rabbits ( maybe also humans), fly eggs etc etc.
Before i let it hot compost i save some of the worms to reuse in next compost pile

Gunnar: excellent, i'm glad to join your club!
btw i have to ask what is your method of turd collection/transfer? for example at the moment im just shitting into a bucket which is easy enough but if you know of a better (or more comfortable!) way then i'm all ears

Out of curiosity, have you added anything else to the crap in your bucket?

The reason I ask is that from what I understand when composting manures, it's common practice to add in straw and/or other plant matter. I'm personally not sure if it's necessary or what the full reasoning is behind it. Most composts are an amalgam of different things... is yours just crap in a bucket? That may very well slow down decomposition/lessening of odor and may make things a bit harder on the baby girls.

Ok everyone I have to confess ....... I'm just pulling your leg. :)
To everyone who got a chuckle out of this thread I'm glad you got a laugh, and to everybody who didn't pick it .... what the hell were you thinking - who in their right mind would grow in ... turd? :)
