Feeding questions...

This is my second grow and so far every thing has gone flawlessly *knock on wood*

its day 8 of flowering, out of my 3 plants 1 is a confirmed female, 1 has hermied and the 3rd is still yet to show any preflowers.

they're basking under a 150 watt hps light and are sitting in a 1 gal pot filled with fox farm ocean forest soil...

now for the questions...

Is it a good time to feed them? I havnt fed them at all.
some of the bottom leaves are slowly yellowing and dying so i thought they might be hungry.

the type i got is a 20-20-20 with micronutrients and it says to use 1/2 teaspoon per gallon every other week or 1/4 teaspoon per gallon every time you water.

will this be what i need for flowering?

Good choice of soil, not so sure about the fertilizer you have. I use FoxFarm Grow Big for veg and Big Bloom and Tiger Bloom, all from FoxFarm, and I recommend them highly. The nutrient you have is going to be too high in Nitrogen for flowering, although your plants are telling you they need some. If you insist on using your fertilizer you have, use the 20-20-20 once or twice in the first two weeks of flowering, to help give you enough N to keep them healthy through budding. Then, switch to something with less or no nitrogen for the remainder of flowering. I will tell you, from my experience, organic bud is much fruitier, stinkier, and far more tasty than bud grown with chemicals, IMO. Hope this helps, just post if you have anymore questions. Peace...

As a general rule when fertilizing plants go with the 1/2 the recommended dosage until you are very familiar with the unique attributes of each fert you use under your particular growing environment.

Go slow and remember LESS is more. A fertilizer company hopes that you use more than is necessary so you buy it more often! Right?

Good Luck

Club drug, if you feel your plants are in need of some nutes... go anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2 the recoomended dosage on the back label. you need a fert that has less nitrogen and more phosphorus. Hit them with a dose of your 20-20-20...but then go out and get yourself a flowering fert. If i were you, once i found them females...i would definatly transplant into bigger pots. Your plants are gonna be blowing up very soon, they need that additional root space, it'll help a great deal. good luck bro! -Opt

im probably going to water them with 1/8 teaspoon per gallon as it says to use 1/4 for indoor plants...

if i have ph balanced water will i have to worry about the ph once i mix the chemicals in with the water?

also what flowering ferts would you recomend? chemical or organic?

i think the pot is actually a little bigger then a gallon, maby 2 gallons, im not exactly sure... any way what size pot should i transplant into? shes almost 3 feet tall and ive never transplanted sotmhing that big so any suggestions on how to handle this are welcome.

oh i almost forgot thanks for all the help guys ill post take some pictures now and post em up.

I'd recommend organic man. You'll agree when you taste your bud. :D Also, less chance of salt buildup (FoxFarms nutrients have a touch of chemicals, but I believe it's chelated micronutrients), more benficial bacteria in the soil...The list of reasons to go organic are immense. :woohoo:

i think im going to stop by the hydro store tomorrow and get some fertalizers but which one should i get?

beastie bloomz :
0-50-30
specially formulated to produce heavy weight fruit and flowering.

Open Sesame:
5-45-19
designed to promote early flowering and ripening in fruits, buds, and flowers. Open Sesame will also enhance flower size and multiple bud set.

Cha-Ching:
9-50-10
formulated to increase essential oils and produce heavy resins in fruit, buds, and flowers.

Big Bloom:
blend of premium grade worm castings and bat guano. Potent, fast-acting source of nutrients. Encourages strong, extra-large, multiple blooms. Balanced element mix. For indoor and outdoor potted plants, roses, vegetables, herbs, flowers, fruit trees and flowering shrubs.

Budswel Liquid Guano:
blended from worm castings, bat guano, seabird guano, soluble seaweeds and natural compost, then finely sifted for high solubility and odorless concentration. Budswel (.01-.10-.01) is a high-phosphorus bloom formula.

out of the products listed, which would be my best route?

As far as I've heard, Cha-Ching, Beastie Bloomz, and Open Sesame are more chemical that anything else they offer, but I have no experience with them. I use powdered Budswel, good stuff, I'd imagine the liquid would be good too. And I use Big Bloom alot, both in veg and in flowering, so definitely get that one. Try to get Tiger Bloom and Grow Big if you can find them. I've also heard good things about Age Old Organics. Here's to a killer harvest! :smoker:

Here is a quick rundown of Fox Farms Nutrients Grow Big,Tiger Bloom and Big Bloom and the three additives Open Seasame,Beastie Bloomz and Cha-Ching.

Grow Big,Tiger Bloom and Big Bloom were made to be used together in conjunction. The first few weeks of the plants life it gets Big Bloom to stimulate healthy root growth then after the plant shows signs of needing Nitrogen you would mix a blend of Grow Big and Big Bloom.Basiclly,Big Bloom is a catalyst of sorts,it helps your plants and their roots to better take up nutrients and fight diseases.

If you take a look at the Fox Farm Ocean Forest Feeding Schedule that I added it tells you what nutes and additives to use together during the three stages of growth (seedling, veg and bloom).

For Veg you mix so many teaspoons or tablespoons of Grow Big to so many tablespoons of Big Bloom and then when you switch to flower you make a mix of Tiger Bloom,Big Bloom and Open Seasame (Open Seasame was created to produce early budset and and more budsites).

In mid flower you add some Tiger Bloom,Big Bloom and Beastie Bloomz (Beastie Blooms was developed to fatten the buds).

In the final stages of flowering you add Tiger Bloom Big Bloom and Cha-Ching (Cha-Ching was developed to increase essential oils and fragrences in resin producing plants (wink wink) and improve flavour).

Open Seasame,Beastie Bloomz and Cha-Ching are in no way organic but you use them in such small amounts (1/4-1/2 teaspoon per gallon,I recommend 1/4 teaspoon) that there really is no worry of salt buildup or chemical build up in the plant unless you feed them this every day which I beleive wou;ld fry your plants majorly.

Other then all that I can tell you from personal experience that hese additives really do make a difference but the best a dn most noticable difference is when used in conjunction properly with the three nutrients Grow Big,Tiger Bloom and Big Bloom.

It's expensive to own all three but you get your moneys worth. For the Grow Big,Tiger Bloom and Big Bloom trio it is about $40 and the Soluble trio,Open Seasame,Beastie Bloomz and Cha-Ching is about $70 so a total of about $100-$110 U.S.

It sounds like you're a little late with the ferts...You should have given ferts for the stretch period....But, if it was me, I would go with Pureblend Pro bloom.....You have your plants under lights, don't go with the "indoor plants" dose....LC
