jitterbug perfume- tom robbins

...in fact, i love and cherish EVERY SINGLE tom robbins book and have read each many times. the man is a genius!

Yes! Certainly my favorite author overall, enjoyed all of his books, so much depth in the characters.

I also love the Dune series, The Corps by WEB Griffin, and some of Dean Koontz' books, especially Twilight Eyes. I read that the first time straight through without a break.

Individual books that have stuck with me: (not sure on authors)

Operators and Things
The Stone and the Flute
A Peoples History of the United States by Howard Zinn ( should be required reading in our schools!)
Fuck Yes!
The Celestine Prophecy ( a cheesy new-age gimmick, but a cool story)

I used to have more books than our local school library, most of which they wouldn't put on the shelves. Moving them several times convinced me to just keep the few I love.

"The Foxfire Book" series.
Only got the first five, need to get up to speed...

"With nearly 9 million copies in print, The Foxfire Book series stands memorial to the people and the vanishing culture of the Southern Appalachian Mountains, brought to life for readers through the words of those who were born, lived their lives, and passed away there—words collected by high school students who wanted to be a part of their community and preserve their heritage. All 12 volumes in the regular series are anthologies of Foxfire Magazine articles written by Rabun County high school students over the Magazine's 40-year history, usually expanded through follow-up interviews and other research." - foxfire.org

What is Ebook reader?? I have never even heard of that.

Go to ebookwise . com. It's the thing in the upper right corner for $124.95. I have 73 books on it right now and it's almost half full :D

I like the feel of a book though, there is just something oddly satisfying about it. I also love the smell of books. I guess I am something of a bibliophile. I love books, and I would love to have a library at my disposal. I have had people tell me I am weird because I do not like to damage my books. I never dogear the pages, never write in them, never fold them in half (damaging the spine) and never write in them. Even though they are mine, I do not like to do any of this, as I plan to pass them along someday. I love really old books that are still in good condition.

I feel the same way about the books I do own. I let someone borrow a book once and they returned it to me with the pages dogeared! Boy was I pissed! I never let anyone borrow them now.

I know!! I hate when people misuse my stuff. Or anybodys' stuff for that matter. I hate going to the public library and seeing a penis drawn on a page. I mean c'mon, have some respect.

Oh, and compared to Hustler, Playboy is a joke. My girlfriend likes em, but I think Playboy is too damn artsy. When I shell out money for a porno (hardly ever, internet having it free and all) I don't care about back lighting...I care about ass.

I've downloaded about 200 books from kaaza and read them on my Palm with Adobe's Palm Reader. The books and the software were free, the Sony Clie was a couple hundred bucks and has tons of other functions as well.

Only problem is you get what computer geeks like to scan and upload (a pain in the ass, I imagine) so you get tons of science fiction and stephen king. you have to hunt for other stuff.

Highly recommeded

Odd that none of you fantasy readers haven't named any Terry Pratchett. My kids/wife love him, I don't read too much fantasy myself though. I would rather learn something if I take the time to read anymore.

"Bound for Glory" the autobiography of Woody Guthrie is a good read. One of my personal heroes by the way.

"A Song of Ice and Fire" series, by George R.R. Martin, is without a doubt some of the best fantasy literature ever written... so gritty and realistic it is amazing.... If you want truly epic fantasy set in world that dwarfs Middle Earth and does not guarantee a win for the good guys in a Medieval European-type setting, pick up the first book "A Game of Thrones". You won't be disappointed.
