Black Sabbath was 2 different bands IMO. Kinda like Van Halen and Van Hagar............

First album is classic. Just so hard & dark.............Black Sabbath, The Wizard, NIB........all soooooo good, yet so evil......nobody had ever done anything like this before.

Paranoid was released only 7 months after the first album. Another classic Sabbath album, albeit a few songs I've heard on FM radio about 10,000 times too many.

But my favorite Sabbath album had to be Masters of Reality. It truly showcased Sabbath's progression as musicians without losing any of the dark, evil stories that made Black Sabbath. Imagine the shock on my mom's face when I was 12 years old in 7th grade Catholic school and she walks into my room to see me singing "Would you like to see the pope on the end of a rope? Do you think it'd be cool?" She tried to tell my dad I was possessed. Sweat Leaf, After Forever, Children of the Grave, Into The Void.................some of the best metal/rock songs ever written and performed.

Sabbath V2.0 is a completely different band IMO. Bring Ronnie James Dio into the mix and that will happen. Was a great singer w/ Rainbow, but needed to be in a dark/evil type band for his songwriting to truly flourish. Black Sabbath was the perfect fit. I still think Heaven & Hell is one of the best songs ever written in any type of music. It was so Black Sabbath and yet, so Dio. Neon Knights is another great song off the H&H album. Mob Rules is another one of my favorite songs from the Dio era.

My favorite Sabbath song?Tough one,but I think I'm going to say Killing Yourself to Live, with Symptom of the Universe and N.I.B. tying for second.I like a small ratio of the Dio stuff, but overall am not a real fan of the musical direction they took when he joined. That being said,I saw Heaven and Hell a few years ago and it was a fucking amazing show. But yeah, the Ozzy shit dominates,Iommi invented heavy metal in my opinion.

I agree, completely different band w/Dio. Don't get me wrong, mucho respect goes out to Dio, he's been on the scene for a long time and has put out loads of good music, and his music with Sabbath is really good. But to me, Ozzy with Sabbath is better than Zeppelin. Before Sabbath, nobody had ever really heard anything like it. They were pioneers.

If I could see any band at any point in time, it would be to see Sabbath in 1972...:rtfo::pimp3:

I know this is kind of an old thread. But my fav Sabbath albums are Heaven and Hell & Mob Rules. I thought Dehuminizer was pretty good as well. As you can tell, I prefer RJD over Ozzy when it came to Sabbath. Dio's voice just fit the band perfectly I thought. Ronnie was smart, intelligent, intellectual, and a great frontman and spokesperson for the metal scene.

Sabotage is very underrated. Not necessarily my favorite, but it definitely holds its' own. Hole in the Sky? Symptom of the Universe? Supertzar? Some of Sabbath's best imo.

Lets go a bit further back to the band called Earth.
As for Sabbath fav song has got to be After Forever, followed closely by War Pigs. Awesome range of vocals in War Pigs.

Man those are all great choices. Hard for me to give a favorite. Children Of The Grave, Sweat Leaf, Neon Knights, Turn Up The Night, Heaven and Hell, The Mob Rules. Those would probably be my favs. I tried to narrow it down to one. Got tired of sitting here trying to decide.

Sabotage is a great record ,i read somewhere that it greatly influenced the punk scene.Paranoid is good but ,ill only put it on to hear "Fairies wear boots" and "planet caravan" cause it so overplayed its like listening to led zepplin 4 .I actually really enjoy listening to ..never say die.......and on occasion the extended jamming of master of reality...
