Fail-safing my tent..

I got pretty sick and tired of not being able to use or open my walk-in closet during the day, so I decided to utilize a 5' tall crawlspace tucked away in my basement, and went ahead and set up a 6.5x5x5 tent, sideways.

I have never actually flowered in a tent or an area this small before, so naturally, here I am consulting the mag. As of right now I have it venting 24/7 through a 6" can fan to vent off any toxic off-gassing, but was kiind of planning on doing co2 supplementation via a 1 lb porpane torch lit on "pilot" situated under a covered 3.5 gallon pot of water (with a couple of regularly tested gas leak detectors plugged in at all times) and sticking a window ac unit through the side of tent.. I know I'll catch some flac for that.. I would never advise anybody do this, but it has worked extremely well for me in the past.. I've kept 1100-1400 ppm without using A.C. or raising temps more than 1-2 degrees in my ~5x5x8 walk in..

Mainly concerned with installing an hid-overheating-shut-off-controller-mabober coupled with supplemental lighting that will turn on should the hps turn off turning daytime hours (hopefully compatibly with my existing 15-minute hot start delay). I can't find any products or info because apparently I still don't know how to use the internet.

I havent quite figured out the sketchup extensions yet, so the attached image is missing the ducting, the 6" wyes that connect my 6" centrifugal up front to the 600 hps cooltubes, and then to the carbon filter behind the tent (not pictured either).

I'm going to go smoke a smoke and collect my thoughts and questions before I keep ranting.

After some sobering up, I can see why google wasn't returning any results for "hid-overheating-controller-shut-off-kabober". Common sense always seems to elude me. High temp shutdown. Also, I am seeing now that many models feature a built-in hot start delay timer. I've just started trying to learn electrical, I could be wrong, but something doesn't seem right with having my timer, hot start delay, and high temp shutdown all daisy chained together pumping >1500w. Asides from that, all I'm really worried about is how well the tent takes to air conditioning and co2 supplementation, which I guess I will find out tonight.

a daisy chain is fine provided all of the parts are designed for your 1500 watt load.

infact alot of control systems utilize line voltage timers, switches, pressure switches and shit like that in go/no go type cascade... its just simpler.

im not saying its the best way... but its a totally valid way to rig up control system.

would you wire up a chemical plant like that? no. but for a simple thing like this its fine.

but if it were me... i would always opt for low voltage + relays. not because its that much safer... but because its cheaper. these sort of controls are ubiquitous in hvac... so they are cheap as hell. you can just use a regular 30 dollar thermostat from home depot and a transformer.

get a fuse to protect the transformer too. what ever the transformer is rated for get a fuse less than that.

get a delay on make and maby a delay on break relay...

i reccomend the ICM timers... can be had cheaply on ebay or at a supply house. i dont trust hydro store shit. its all shity overpriced over marketed horse shit.

Always been intimidated/mystified by electrical, particularly low voltage. If there were any glowing reviews for a pre-fab unit I would jump on it, but.. as you said, it all seems to be overpriced crap with a 1 week- 6 month life expectancy. It looks like I'll have to put on my big boy pants and finally climb out on the limb. Never a better time to learn than the present. Thanks queequeg.
