F@#king Derogatories!!!!

I know this might sound really stupid. But as I've been getting older, I've noticed some things that I never gave a second thought to, or things that are so common place but wrong or negative are now a normality in today's society that I never before cared about. Without further ado though, my mental dilemma:

I notice a majority of people still call cannabis by it's smorgasbord of slander more common than it's REAL name. I don't have a problem with most of them, just the one's used for generation's to vilify the most useful and beneficial plant on earth. I'm not trying impose my view points on others. But marijuana, marihuana, pot, grass, weed, dope and reefer are the name's i most have a problem with (others i don't mind as their more descriptive rather then belittling). And to me it is like nail's on a chalk board. Might sound trivial, but most people don't go calling/addressing their loved one's by derogatories. In my mind when I hear cannabis to be called be any number of it's many name's, it gives me a predetermined view point of intellectual ignorance by it's user. I really think there need's to be a HUGE education reform on cannabis, specifically in the US at the least, so people will know the facts, not the age old political word-play and slander-ism. Anyone else feel as such? Or am I perhaps in desperate need of a new strain, and maybe social circle? (although I'll be moving to CO in a week!!!!!)

I like to call growers Dopers....my friend takes offense to that. She likes to call them Farmers....I think the truth is somewhere in between. I've met plenty of growers that are just not on top of anything. I've not met too many that I would consider truly well rounded farmers. That being said, they do exist.

There's way bigger problems than this IMO...Over population, terrible education, no motivation, laziness, entitlement, credit slavery, and education loans leaving people like indentured servants of the banks are just a few.

I have to agree...everyone needs to stop using the M word and go back to calling it cannabis and the rope version hemp. As long as people are using the government M word, the propaganda will still be effective to rednecks and non users...

I think wanting to censor the vocabulary of others is more of a problem. Get over yourself. You can't go around thinking the world needs to conform to your ideals. To wish to educate is noble, to set a higher standard is admirable, but to seek to control others is unacceptable. It's that attitude that makes criminals of us all. Live, let live and lead by example.

Yea, regardless of it's origins... if you've got a problem with people calling Cannabis weed or marijuana you're going to want to partake a little more of whatever the hell you prefer to call it.

The majority of old shool heads I know call it "pot". They are my elders.. who am I to try and change them.

I agree to an extent. In professional setting/article what have you it should be referred to as Cannabis. In all other instances.. who cares. We grew up calling it weed/bud. Its not derogatory if it is no longer intended that way.

Who cares what the government calls it and their intentions in doing so. Their propaganda has been obviously ineffective.

In my mind when I hear cannabis to be called be any number of it's many name's, it gives me a predetermined view point of intellectual ignorance by it's user.
Well then you need to open your mind a bit. The different names we call Cannabis has nothing to do with our intellect or knowledge of the plant. Your predetermined view point is rather ignorant in itself.

interesting... when you go to buy tomato, are you the douce which orders with: "my dear, id like to have a pound of your finest solanum lycopersicum")??? why care about, it's just terms... time to blaze up some dagga :)

This was just a rant, whilst stoned, late at night. Was just looking to see how many like minded individuals are out there. As my post states', I am not trying to imposing my viewpoints on others. Nor am I trying to change anyone. Just bringing up an aspect of a subject that is rife with negative assumptions and mis/disinformation. People can call whatever, whatever they want. People can believe whatever they want. But it doesn't retract from the fact perpetuated falsies/mislabelization's are not correct just because it is common place.

when a government agency issues a statement, it should be considered under professional usage, so they must use the proper term instead of nick-names, whether it be marijuana, pot or what have you.

we must hold government employees to a high standard of professionalism.

maybe in the future being a government employee can end up meaning that you were selected for the job because of your professionalism and well rounded education, instead of being the friend of a friend who hooked you up with the job, as it now is.

the same goes for journalists. any journalist that uses nick-names instead of the proper name, is unprofessional and lacks the objectivity expected from someone in said profession, and of course his writtings should not be taken seriously.

Being from Colombia you should see the names people call me, and my people, my mother and niece. (A few bad apples ruin it for everyone as always).

Call it what you want and I will call it what I want (I have almost never called it Mota btw).

Just don't call it KGB unless it really is Killer Green Bud

Usually when I hear "pot" or "dope" I judge the person as not so enlightened

kinda harsh ... it's an age thing. the word "dope" brings back a whole era of wonderful thoughts for me. i like the connection in this day and at this age.

Words are made up. They don't actually mean anything unless you want them to mean something. They are just sounds that come out of our months. Much easier than pointing and grunting though.:)

Seems as though you are a bit uptight, and need to smoke some more marijuana, reefer, dope, herb, fire, dank, cannabis, etc...:)

Nah,
Think we need to call it Satan's Bane or something real lurid sounding to point out how ridiculous the whole deal is.

Whites and white cops refer to it as dope around here. Blacks still like that loud, gas, keisha. I like cannabis when speaking intellectually and weed the rest of the time.

I dunno, man. In the big scheme of things does this matter or is it more important that people are being put to death over drugs in some places on this planet? That is the battle I would pick. Sorry for jacking the thread. K++
