Eye Protection From HPS light

Anyone wear any eye protection when working in your room with the lights on? Since going from a 150w to a 600w it's much much brighter. Right now I've just been wearing sunglasses but welding glasses in sunglass style would be good.

Anyone else wear anything? Where the best/cheapest place to order some glasses from?

There is a place you can get growroom glasses which is a very good idea,, grow-lumii.com growroom lenses reduce CFL and HID headband 707

I've never used eye protection..if I look at the bulb I'm momentarily blinded so I try pretty hard not to!
Is there a good reason that it should be used?

i think over the years i have worked with hps lights i have gotten weaker eye sight, so i would highly recommend using at least good sun glasses. ideally turn the lights close to where you are working off till you are done. what ever you do don't look directly at the bulbs without eye protection. if i have to go under the lights i keep my eyes looking down. thats with only 600 watters, can only imagine how it is with 1 k lights.

Yeah I only use 1 600 watter, and I already had poor eyesight, but I've been wondering lately if it's degrading faster.
Sunglasses it is!

It's very bright, same principle as wearing sunglasses outdoors. Especially with the reflective walls and whatnot. You can do some serious damage if you're not careful.

I wear a hat with a visor on it,
and I try not to let there be a direct line of sight from the bulbs to my eyes.

I bought some of these
http://www.safetyglassesinc.com/Uvex...afety-Glasses/

They work great and these lenses are available on the same site with more stylish frames. My grow room is a style free area, so I went with the one that most covers the eyes. Adjustable. Good price. I recommend getting the "neck cord" aka lanyard.

These are code 5, but they are available in code 3 which is probably good. The 5's are a bit dark.

I think it's important to wear a hat with a brim that actually shades your eyes from the lamp above. Good luck. -granger

I hang out in my room a lot,so sunglasses are a must. The ones I use outside I use inside.
When I didn't use them in the past,it would take awhile for my sight to become normal again. It would be kinda blurry for at least 15min.

pricey but my eyes are worth a couple hundred dollars to me, especially since I work under HIDs every day....
Never noticed how much of a beating they were taking till I started using them. All of the sudden my eyes weren't sore.

Hid bulbs put out almost no uvb. I think good wrap around sunglasses with dark lenses will work well.

I always wear eye protection and a hat when I'm in my room. Not just for the light. There have been numerous occasions while not paying attention pruning and I have almost poked my eye out with plant stakes. Shit happens and thank god I had glasses on when it did.

dont look at light . put up hand to block light if ya look up. otherwise cheap sunglasses.i am a welder and my goggles are way too dark. a pair of auto darkening grower goggles would be cool tho. there aint enough uv to worry about.unless runing uv bulbs or such.

I use Lumii growroom glasses which are like the method sevens with the blue lens but are cheaper at about 25.00. Not as nice as the Method Sevens but they get the job done.

Code 3 welding glasses are the ones you want
I thought it was Shade 5 welding glasses. Amazon has a boatload of different models for under $15. The vert forum has a thread on this: A plee for your health  I think Shade 5's darker and they use Shade 10 or 11 for welding. superman made a note his welding goggles are too dark.
