Exchange air between rooms? Day/Night

Hey Folks,

I am thinking of setting up a dual room setup. Rooms will run on alternate lighting schedule. When lights in one room go out, they go on in the other. My question is would it be useful to share the air between the rooms? In other words, to blow air from one room into the other? Does anyone have experience doing this?

I'm thinking that air coming from the night room should be full of CO2, so it would be good to bring this air into the day room as this would enrich CO2. And vice versa, air coming from day room should be full of Oxygen, so would be good to bring this air into the night room. During the day plants breathe in CO2 and breathe out Oxygen, whereas at night, plants breathe in Oxygen and breathe out CO2. So it seems logical that sharing air between the rooms would be beneficial for both rooms.

I sought the internet for information on such a setup, but was not able to find anything. I guess I just wasn't able to find anything. Someone must have considered this idea before…

Thanks in advance for any info/reports.

They dont use very much oxygen at night,so it wouldnt hurt, but its not going to help much either.

Earl, it is a great idea and indeed was thought of some time ago. It is a practiced idea and is know as flip-flop rooms.

Thanks Bandit.

No this will not be a sealed room… Not an option. Does my thinking regarding Co2/oxygen exchange between night/day rooms make sense? Or am I over-simplifying the thinking process? Given we are moving towards the winter, temps will get colder, so relative humidity should drop. Will humidity still be a concern? If my idea of exchanging air between rooms is not workable, I can arrange for the air to be blown out directly.

Right now, what I am planning is to have each room breathe in approx. 50% fresh air and 50% re-used air. Each room extracts 50% of air into the other room and blows the other 50% outdoors. Germination coming in one week… Hope I can get some more input pin this topic before then, in case need to change setup.

Puff the stuff hard

Green! You're the man, exactly what I wear hoping to hear… Can you direct me to any grow diaries or other sources of information/experience on the topic of air exchange between night/day rooms?

Works very well, I have a 10x10 room split into 2 5x5 w/2x600watt flower rooms and a 5x10 lung room. The air exchange I use is between the flower rooms and the lung room not directly between the rooms. I also have an a/c in the lung room for the summer.

WK, are you referring to a sealed room? I thought lung room was for sealed rooms. What are you doing to the air in the lung room? Wondering if I will need dehumidifier… Thanks all for your help

not sealed. not doing anything to the air in lung room other than a/c. you may need a dehuey depending on the ambient humidity, very low here.

C'mon guys… Anyone have experience recycling air between rooms? Does it provide any benefits in terms of exchange of Oxygen / CO2 between night and day rooms? I am thinking of interacting about 50% recycled air, and interacting 50% fresh air from outside in each room. One room dark while the other is daytime, and vice versa.

Given that plants produce CO2 at night, is it beneficial to push this air into the daytime room to boost CO2? Likewise, is it beneficial to push the oxygen generated in the day room to the night room to boost oxygen level (plants breathe mainly oxygen at night)?

Seems like a match made in heaven to me, but not sure how much CO2 / Oxygen boost it will produce. Please help.

Yep been there done that. One of the main benefits is controlling temps. U do have the advantage of co2 and o2 exchange. But I don't know how much it helps. As long as ur co2 levels don't go to low and all ur other environmental parameters are met it should be rockin. I do have a cheap co2 monitor and it does get low doing it this way without any fresh intake. But if u got some intake or added co2 then ur golden. The only real way to know is throw a co2 monitor in there and see what ur levels are.

Your plan will work great if u make sure temps, and humidity stay in there sweet spots. Exchanging 50% outside air will keep ur co2 in good growing levels, just not boosted like adding a tank, or co2 burner. If u need a little back up heat a gas heater is free co2 as well.
