I was bite ,by a fidleback had a huge hole in my foreleg, could not get it to close up,I made colodial silver and poured on it two weeks later it was closing up ,I read that a nitro pad placed on the bite helps a lot ,gives massive headache, and a stun gun will nutrilize the venom, lol,

Yeah, a few people mentioned the use of electric current.

Nitro pad, does that mean nitro-glycerine, like people take for heart attacks ?

You can see how spacey it makes you ... Sunday, when I first posted this, is 4 days after Wednesday, not 5.

Last night I left the burner on the frying pan on. Not too hot, no damage, just an example of "Spacing out after the spider bite".

I think I smoked twice yesterday.

The swelling did as expected, continued moving right across my forehead and face. My lips are un-affected, my nose can feel it - hurts when I touch it.

The tissue around both eyes are swollen.

The immune system war-zone goes from my left sideburn to the right side of my forehead. It goes up my scalp part way.

I have a hunch that I will lose some skin like a bad sun-burn.

I was wondering how the body expels the crap, in cases where you don't have the cubic-inch-tissue-death that is common for leg and arm black widow bites.

I'm not always aware of how much I sweating. But when I wake up and my shirt is drenched with sweat, that answers part of the question.

My temperature is down this morning. That's probably good.

One of the things I do normally which is obviously a good thing to do here: DRINK LOTS OF WATER ... because you're going to sweat it all out.

I normally drink one or 2 pints every morning.

Appearance wise ... now that is where it gets interesting.

My face is looking like a truly scary Halloween mask.

I'm going to ask my neighbor to take some more pictures. If I can find a way to anonymize them enough, perhaps with a bud thrown in, maybe I'll give it a shot.

Got to go to the bank this morning. I know 2 of the tellers and the manager real well, all women. That is going to be interesting. :woohoo:

I feel like giving a thumbs-up but I don't want to be cocky, I'm not out of the woods, yet.

Thanks again for all the replies ! :peacock:

I have been bit by a black widow-- I was trying to just tough it out...but on day 4, I was sweating and unstable at work, so my boss took me to the ER-- Turns out the venom isn't usually deadly, but, as in my case, it tends to cause blood poisoning-- I had a lump under my arm and a red line going up my arm-- That is the problem!!
You need antibiotics, and should probably go ahead and see a Dr!!

I did a Google search for home remedies but didn't find anything substantial. Below is a link to one of the sites that came up. It seemed the best at spelling out all the pertinent information.

Good luck, I feel you completely, the cost for just a hospital room alone per night (if they keep you for observation) is more then a monthly mortgage payment for a single family home (over $1000 in my area). My wife has COPD she went to the emergency room once because a cold was affecting her breathing in a big way, they kept her for 3 days, ran a bunch of tests and then finally released her with a script for some potent antibiotics and prednisone (steroid). The bill came to close to $10,000 for everything (room, doctor consults, tests, etc.) She did get better but only after she got home and filled the scripts. Had the ER sent her home with the scripts and the instruction to come back if things got worse instead of better, then the result would have been the same and would have cost less then $500. The justification for keeping her and running tests was because she has COPD and therefore they felt it better to err on the side of caution. Which sounds all well and good but not so much when you get the bill.

Man that sucks that you got bit. I had some necrosis from my ankle being bit and still have a scar thats shaped like a big chicken foot lol. The venom itself wont kill you though. The antivenom is way worse and can cause severe allergic reactions so they only give it to you in an emergency. I hear soaking chewing tobacco and putting it on the infected area can help alleviate it. Could just be snake oil though lol.

Yes, you understand.

When you were most vulnerable - family member in significant poor health - the "doctors" use this as a chance to Run up the Revenues.

It's like they stuck an oil derrick into your bank account and started sucking.

Those aren't the kind of doctors I want anything to do with.

Today ... OK Let me get my bread and start the coffee ... right eye swelling matches the left eye.

beginning to look less like a Romulan make-up exercise, and little more like one of the Avengers.

definitely have that "Zoo Animal" smell in this shirt, only 2 nights wearing it.

Not sure what purpose the fever plays in a massive allergic reaction.

It certainly is a Poison, literally, my blood was poisoned.

6 micrograms is the typical Black Widow bite.

However, I have no infection, and medications like Penicillin tend to knock me on my back (make me feel very weak.) Definitely not a good time to take an antibiotic.

Interestingly, the body reacts similarly to if it was an infection. The spider venom kills red blood cells. And white blood cells, they tend to be self-sacrificing, they will envelope fragments of spider bite neurotoxin, (remember that movie "Fantastic Voyage" ?), dead red blood cells, and basically try to act like a huge army of Central Park janitors whose job it is to "clean up the gang fight" (though the gang fight is still ongoing.)

It looks like the body's plan is to move all this crap to right near the skin.

I would not be surprised if a week from now, I start losing skin, like a major sun-burn.

The current Netflix I have is the first episode of the original Mission Impossible.

Going to be an expert in MI Trivia by the time this is over.

According to what I read in the link I posted previously, the fever is a symptom of the venom and not part of an allergic reaction.

But that's assuming he was actually bitten by a black widow spider. Actually he was bit by "something", and the reaction is different from a black widow bite, so who knows.

Okay fair point, I was assuming that since the thread title specified Black Widow, that meant he verified what it was. I went back and reread the first post and see now that he wasn't sure of what exactly bit him.

...is this a typical story of the current state of affairs of the USA medical establishment..?
Why not just go to the Doctor, a bite in your foot, hand is ok, but a neck is a vital area ...last I looked

Well the typical story of the current state of medical care in the US is that it's way more expensive then it should be. Health insurance can help a lot but rarely pays all and what's left can easily still be too much for many to bare.

Because it's about a massive allergic response to what was probably a spider bite - and I haven't been to a "doctor" yet - I don't think it qualifies as a typical story. A typical story of frontier medicine, perhaps.

I simply don't have access to anything resembling a Doctor.

The best medical care I am getting in this situation is literally, the simple comparing of notes with people who have had similar injuries.

I like talking about the details of 21st century American health care. But when I'm better.

Today would be day 7.

The swelling that started near my left side-burn has now moved to my right ear, and behind it. When it first "moves into" an area, it is tender and sore, e.g. the area behind the right ear.

That's left to right. Top to bottom, it does not reach my lips, but I can feel it on the right side of my head.

Eye tissue is still swollen.

It no longer has the "Romulan" look. The swelling is more 'even' left to right.

Put another way, the area of swelling is ear to ear (with a little extra behind the right ear) and upper face/ forehead (nose, eyes, forehead, scalp)

I feel like I feel better, but I say that after 1 cup of coffee with sugar.

An example of why one may not be prepared to go back to work in this situation ... I boiled some coffee water yesterday. There were carrots in the pot. I laid down, and passed out.

Woke up to ... OH GOD ! That terrible burnt carrots smell.
The chickens ended up with a bunch of mushy extra-smokey carrots.

Anyway, my schedule today will be similar to yesterday - visit with my neighbor to look at the Whorled Phyllotaxy (that's when a pistil area sends out more grow tips) on some Candyland x Apollo he's growing.

Let him take another set of pictures of the allergic reaction.

Shoot the breeze like we normally do.
Take care of 2 acres of garden.
MAYBE make some more aviary wire deer-protection cages.
MAYBE do a run into town, short stop at Walmart.

I feel like the cumulative burden of the allergic reaction has backed off. (In other words, I'm better, maybe.) I also just had a good night's sleep.

I'll have a better answer when I see how much work I can comfortably get done this morning.

When I first got bit, I had been mixing up some soil for an outdoor flowering cycle. That's all been sitting there for a week, same as I left it.

if you go to walmart , get some Benadryl , take 2 every 4 hrs ,this will help a lot

Thanks.

Antihistamines, the day after, have a terrible hang-over me. Tomorrow I would feel worse, guaranteed.

Not worth.

I've actually tried taking Benadryl as a sleep aid.

Of course, if the swelling was somewhere where you can't afford to have swelling - e.g. the lungs - I would be taking Benadryl.

My neighbor photographed me like we've been doing every day.

He said the swelling is down.

That's how I felt. The temperature-that-feels-like-high-fever is gone ... knock on wood.

It is comforting knowing that after you were bit by a black widow spider, in the neck, with major neck, face and head swelling and tissue damage, have not felt well, stupidly didn't go to a doctor, have an excuse why not to do anything anybody has suggested, but yet you are out driving around in your car not worrying about any of the healthy, innocent drivers you could kill or injure because you are perhaps the dumbest guy on earth.

You are foolish not to get yourself checked out by a doctor and are an idiot for driving around in your car.

Stay inside until you are better or die and stay the fuck out of your car. WTF is the matter with you?

When people practiced frontier medicine they didn't have cars. So if you want to practice frontier medicine go all the way. NO CAR!
