Epsom salts

I have what I reckon to be classic MG deficiency. I want to add epsom salts to counter this. How much should I add per litre of water?

Plant is 4 weeks into veg, in a 5" pot. I've no camera to post pics with. But it looks pretty identical to the pics of MG deficiency in the Complete Guide to... stickie

Any help greatly appreciated, this is a brilliant forum.

Thanks,

Anthony

For the record, my full plant stats are below:

What STRAIN are you growing? Nirvana White Rhino
What was the establishing technique? Clone
What is the age of your plants? 4 weeks into veg
What size pots are you using? 5" pots
What substrate/medium are you using? Bio-bizz All-mix
What Nutrient's are you using? Bio-bizz Bio-grow at half recommended dosage
What is the TDS/EC/PPM of your nutrients used? Don't know
What is the pH of the "RUN-OFF"? 6.5
What method of pH test was administered? pH pen
How often are you watering? Whenever soil is dry but before plant starts to droop
When was your last feeding and how often are you feeding? Last feeding a week ago. I flush every three feedings
What size bulb are you using? About 120 watts of flouros
What is the distance to the canopy? 3"
What is your RH Factor? (Relative Humidity) Don't know - but I reckon it's pretty low. Probably the cause of the MG deficiency
What is the canopy temperature? 80
What is the Day/Night Temp? (Include fluctuation range) 65 - 80
What is the current Air Flow? (cfm etc.) No idea. It's a small veg box, 1x1.5x2
Is the fan blowing directly at plants? yes
Is the grow substrate constantly wet or moist? I let it dry out a good bit between waterings
Is your water HARD or SOFT? It's over 7, maybe 7.3
Has plant been recently pruned, cloned or pinched? yes
Have any pest chemicals been used? If so what and when? No
Are plant's infected with pest's? There are a few fruit flies around

well you would add 1 tsp per gallon of water....... not sure how much you would add to 1 liter......

RH is not going to cause a mag def, either lock out or to little of mag is going to cause the issue.... RH just makes the plants transpire more or less and eat less or more depending on the RH......

These fruit flies are you SURE they are fruit flies and not fungus gnats?
Fungus gants live in the soil.. there larva do and they steal nutrients from the soil....
so I was wanting to know if you know for sure that is what they are......

You will see larva that is white and squirmy in the soil and some come out after you water....

Thanks for the reply.

Fungus gnat -ughhhhhhhhh. You could be right. I'll get some sand and smother those bastards, as your stickie suggests.

Could be lock-out too, will flush to see if that helps.

A clone vegged a month in a 5" container is ready to be potted up.
A rootbound plant will exhibit nutrient deficiencies from poor nute uptake.
Fungus gnats eat plant roots and will also cause nutrient def symptoms as the plants nute uptake is affected.
If the infestation is severe enough, the plants suffer to the point of dieing.

First things first, transplant it into a larger container.
Secondly, kill the fungus gnat larvae by treating the soil with BTI.
Once you've gotten the soil treated with bti applications, the life cycle will be broken as the existing adults (the flying gnats) will not be able to have offspring that survive to become the next generation. Fungus gnat adults are attracted to yellow sticky traps which are also a good way to discover an infestation before it goes out of control, however it is NOT an effective control method, the soil MUST be treated with BTI or the life cycle will continue. Sand is NOT effective.

You would add 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon epsom salts per liter of water. Do this only once.

Wrong, if he is lacking magneisum in his nutrient solution his issue will come right back, so he will need to add it to every time he feeds.

No worries. Any signs that your defeciency has gone away yet? Let us know how you do.

sooooooo stitch you really recomend epsom salts everytime you water?!?!?!?!? that will **** up the benificial bactieria and cause salt build up epsom salts is no good for gardening there for FEET go get some cal mg

and yes your prolly going to say that magniesium sulfate is in cal mg but its prolly not the kind at your grocery store

why would you want to add a bunch of salt to your soil unless your using gh or somthing like that your going to mess with your microlife

Sorry G, but you're just wrong in SOOOO many ways!

All chemical fertilizers are "salts".

Magnesium Sulfate sold as Epsom salts is exactly the same as the Magnesium Sulfate found in nutrient bottles.

chem-based fertilizers do NOT "mess with your microlife" if applied at levels that are healthy for plants.

THank you Dirt, you saved me time from explaining that :) Cheers!

G, if you are deficient in magnesium with your nutrients you are using, NOT using them will make the issue come back, and as Dirt has stated, it's the same as you would be using with other nutrients so it would not cause any issues what so ever unless you use to much.
Now if you just need a little more magnesium when your ferts do not have enough, watering every time is still not going to hurt them, you just add a little less than the normal dosage.
