emigrating to amsterdam

Guest

In about a year I'll finish my MBA (4.0 so far). I'm simply tired of being a 'duck out of water' via my cultural / personal beliefs, and need a change. After school I'm thinking about emigrating to Amsterdam or maybe Utrecht; maybe Mexico  - who knows? I'm just wondering - in terms of the Netherlands - how difficult this is for an American? Is it essential for me to speak dutch? Are the jobs available to foreigners? How does the government approach this (do they make it crazy hard? I imagine they would).

Of course I did a web and forum search before posting this, but per usual there are so many generalizations and no specific information. Any help would be much appreciated; HL.

move to Canada lol.

I was born in Europe, lived in Germany, been to the netherlands etc, cool places but I would think job opporunities are generally better in the U.S and Canada than in Europe or Mexico, Asia etc.

and yeah language is always a factors, as an adult you'll never perfectly learn a new language and obviously without language your limited to the type of jobs you can have.

maybe Canada ? lol.

I"m pretty sure I'm going to live in Canada for the rest of my life, one of the best places in the World I'd say.

lots of weed here, police are much mroe lenient the U.S. Vancouver is a nice place.

I've been to Amsterdam, it's definately an interesting city but I'm not sure if I'd want to live there, just doesn't look like my type of city. I'd prefer a small quiet town, Amsterdam is the complete opposite, big crowded city.

you can't even drive in Amsterdam, it's faster to walk, so many people in the streets.

Mexico also sucks, the tourist places look nice and all but the cities there are super crowded with bad pollution, not a lot of well paying jobs.

check out www.expatica.com they have a full list of what hoops you must jump through. the Dutch government is trying to make it more and more difficult for non-eu citizens to gain citizenship. the 2 easiest ways as i understand it to become a dutch citizen is to either marry a dutch citizen or make a capital investment in a business of 50,000 euro, the investment one was told to me by the weed tender at cafe 420. good luck.

Contact the Dutch Consulate. They are the only ones with the most up-to-date information. Germany is right next door. They are always looking for educated Americans in the professional field. You would have a better chance there. After all it's only a 40 min ride from Aachen Germany.

No man, not Cali. too expensive, they aren't very friendly towards growers (www.norml.org), and they have the most strictly enforced 3 strike laws in the country.

Your talking more about Northern Mexico, Southern Mexico is alot better. It's not like the places the border the US. The coasts are great, shit even in Northern Mexico there are nice places, you just have to look a bit harder.

Although it's alot better to go into Mexico with money, as you can live very well.

If you want to live somewhere culturally different I'd suggest South America, or Asia. Both have places that are alot cheaper to live in, and It's probably easier to get jobs there compared to Europe.

that's funny though, all the Mexicans are trying to illegally enter U.S and the U.S is building walls to keep them out and then Americans want to go and live in Mexico lol.

I guess if you come with money you can live in a mansion but still wouldn't want to live in Mexico. What's so great about Mexico other than having nice beaches.

I wouldn't go to Asian if you are a grower or smoker lol, a lot of places have death penalties and really harsh sentences for drugs.

They don't care about your shit, their culture alot more laided back, have a good time and drink some tequila. Beautiful women, great food, ganja, culture, weather.

It just depends on who you are, I'd have no trouble kicking back with a 7oz Corona, beautiful woman, and a joint on the beach. Or up in the hills growing monster AP golds.

I wouldn't let drug use stop you from have some of the greatest experiances of your life, but if you are smart (I don't expect this from you) you can use drugs in any county.

man mexico is awesome; I'm thinking you've never been, cuz if you had, you'd know. Good food, good climate, the women are nice, everything's cheap, and yeah the beach - I grew up in a corn field dude. One of my roomies from when I was doing undergrad lives in a small village south of Veracruz and he's ridiculously happy.
