I switched from 8 inch ducting to 10 and run my fan slower and It seems my sound was cut by almost half. It moves more volume of air at a slower speed so its quiter and not on as much.
That's a good idea darthvapor. The only thing is I have a 6" vortex, so in order to use 8" or 10" ducting I would need some kind of conversion piece. Do you or anyone know if they have conversion pieces to go to bigger ducting? I've seen conversions that make the ducting smaller just not larger.
Lawnboy, take the 6 to 8 inch reducer and put the 6 inch side on your blower and the 8 inch will be where you need it, all your doing is useing it backwards and it works fine
another thing that will help reduce sound is a switch from flex duct to rigid...it's alot harder to work with, but the smooth runs help to eliminate additional turbulence in the pipe caused by the flex duct.
I have run into the same issue. I saw a post a couple days ago about Panasonic's whisperline series of fans. The inline type are a bit larger, therefore would be harder to install in a small cab. I am seriously thinking about getting one of the 6" models but haven't seen too much for reviews on them. Anyone use any of these Panasonic fans?
I have always used the ELicent fans and have had excellent luck. I bought mine off of ebay and it works great. Side by side to a vortex they push the same amount of Air IMHO. I think the vortex Cfm values are over rated. There is nothing published showing that those CFM number are accurate.
