That sounds like a dream! If/when they notice, will probably come out to fix it and might give you an estimated use if they'd want to charge you. Best case they'd fix it and won't charge for past use. Best of luck!

At some point they will see the loss and come check they will try and blame you as you are liable for it.

Would the electric company, most likely not using smart meters, really know how much energy has been "lost" or used without a meter? I figured they would check past usage and give an estimated bill

In my experience they can and will most definitely send a bill.
Don't get me wrong I would love to see him get over but he should be prepared because when it comes they will expect payment.

If given a large bill it's my understanding that he could make smaller payments until debt is paid off. Agreed, wishing for the best.

My electricity meter is dead but I'm still getting power ok but i can't put credit in it?

Its dead with power on I expect it'll stay on as its not registering units used, what do you think?
I can't have the power going of for more than a few minutes it stinks the neighbours would be on it in no time and that's Trouble!

I suppose I'm hoping it fixes itself idk what to do here?

i have had this issue for two years. is it an old meter? they surged the units , so they fail and you need to replace them. they insist on a smart meter installation, and even after requesting a traditional type replacement they will persist with a smart meter installation. are you renting? contact them and arrange a visit , after your grow is complete . if they turn up . you will go round and round in circles if you do not want a smart meter. it gets extremely annoying.

i'm awaiting another visit , and i refuse to have a smart meter . i'm on the 4th attempt at the traditional installation route.... they stil send the smart meter team who get told to fuck off everytime

Smart meters are ok, had one for years… it’s a prepay one, and it’s only set to send meter readings once a day ( you can choose how often they’re sent) so they never have to physically read your meter.
They don’t know what appliances or separate wattages you use.

Tell them they can install a SMART meter IF they can prove it is not hazardous to your health and will put up a surety of $100M incase it harms your health in any way.

If I thought it'd go un noticed I wouldn't mention it, I've been buying electricity but the card/key system will know its not getting taking off so I've a limited time before they'll know anyway, once I get drying started and the bulk of the moisture out it I should be ok to report it.

Idk about smart meters, I know they didn't spend millions for our benefit, I'm inclined to be awkward when I'm getting robbed, when in history did anyone ever pay more up front for anything?

So I’m the past I’ve faced shit like this., this is how I played it.
I call the power company and get the info on what needs to happen.
I tell the power company my bull mastiff will bite who ever comes around and it needs to be scheduled to avoid this outcome.
Get a date and time from lower company.
Rent a truck and put your plants in it. You may have to get BIG white ware boxes to do this. You may need friends too help you. You will need $$$ for This.
Drive the truck some where safe for the day. Even better if you can unload the plants so they don’t stick again the truck to much. You gonna have to clean it anyways.
Once work is done restock your grow show.

Growing ain’t easy man shit ya gotta do sometimes.

Theres nothing i enjoy more than real creative thinking and problem solving. Props, the game is on and never lost....

You may laugh at what I said about the conditions for installation but it has worked here in Australia many times, people have stated that and then had no SMART meter installed, even been told none will be installed ever.

The threat with calling them is worst case they're going to be here changing the meter, I don't expect it'd take long but even an hour the smell isn't containable.

If I knew it'd stay on I would buy electricity as normal so on the surface its ok?

That might add up if they didnt increase the meter charge to ""cover the cost of the smart meter upgrade"" problem is it wasnt a one off payment the increase is perminant which is more than enough to cover ongoing wages of meter readers . We are controlled more with a smart meter they will know if you have set loads coming on or off at any particular time and can turn your power of without the effort of sending someone out to be confronted .
Im not a fan of companies collecting meta data it gets used against us in the long run and this has that capability aswell by seeing your personal peak time usages and charging you higher in those time bands for example . Its always about more profits for these big companies not saving us a dollar .

I also get charged a higher rate because I prepay… which has always confused me. I can’t think of any other industry where you get charged more for paying upfront
