electricity billl

R

rick shaw

Biggest wasters of electricity are space heaters/window air conditioners 800-1500 w average. With heavy usage expected. They are a little more plausible then telling then of a home based business, welding/pottery that may be subject to inspections/lease prohibitions.

To find out how much it your light are costing you:

(Wattage ÷ 1000) x Cost per Kilowatt hour = Cost Per Hour

Cost Per Hour x Hours Used Per Month = Cost of running lights each month.

Example.

(400 ÷ 1000) x .07 = .028

.028 x (18 HoursPerDay x 30 Days) = $15.12 For an 18hr veg on a 30 day month.:noway:

a 400w should not increase the bill by 150$. I would examine your usage, are you leaving stuff on, etc. Also check the billing cycle, that may have been for August which is very hot and your AC may have run non stop.

Try to conserve power

i doubt the electric company is going to call. If they do its very simple. Tell them your sister is having trouble and her and her kid moved in. People are loosing their homes every day, families are doubling, tripling up everywhere. In my 9-5 I see it all day long. End of conversation.

computer servers, my pc is running on 850 watts, notincluding monitor and surround sound.

Do you really think your computer pulls 850 watts 24/7? Just because the power supply is rated at 850 watts doesnt mean thats what it pulls. That is only when the computer running 100%, processor, hard drive, disk drives, etc

You could always tell them, dam, I bought this 60" Plasma and the new Halo and its KICK ASS, cant put the controller down, blah blah

Just a further comment. I think my experience was rare considering I have not seen anyone else mention it before. But if they do call I would not say anything about a home based business that would open you up to a having business licenses and your home may not be zoned for that usage. The city wants more money and if you say that they may want a bigger deposit or want to see your license. It just opens you up to paying them more money. Just say you converted from gas or more people live there now or any number of things. I think they could care less but they do want you to be safe and not be a fire hazard for the whole block.

It is understandable to be concerned, I would recommend do everything you can to reduce energy consumption elsewhere in the house. Your water heater (if it runs on elec.) is a big consumer of energy. You can turn the water heater off or "on vacation" except on days you need to shower, otherwise using cold water for daily functions is not that bad. Also fluorescent house lights are good, and if possible getting appliances that run on gas is a plus. If you can get away with turning your air conditioner off or running it on a cycle will help. Keep in mind though that electric meters can malfunction and do malfunction, check out this link http://michaelbluejay.com/electricity/measure.html there is a tutorial on checking your house meter, it will tell you how much your using. Then you must calculate your expected energy use, each electrical device has information somewhere telling you how much energy is used over a given period of time, make sure all of your units are the same for your calculation. You can find easy conversions online. If your expected use is markedly lower than what your meter says you may have a meter malfunction. A 400 watt light should not make much of a difference. If you run 4- 100 watt incandescent houselights the use is about the same. So if you do have a malfunction find out from somebody if the power company people need to go inside of your house to fix it. If they do not need to go inside to check it out or fix it than there should not be any risk in having them come and fix the meter. good luck

you guys pay some crazy high prices for your kwh. I pay like 6 cents per kwh here in oregon. I have four 1000w going and that raised my bill like a 100-150 per month.

10 ,1000s for flower ,central air, scrubber intake and exhaust fans 1000w for veg and some floros for mothers and cloning . And Im in a very big house on a large property in the cut

sounds about right...my friend runs a 5 1k lights and a bunch of fans, etc, and his bills just over 1000 a month.

when i ran a 2400 watt bedroom grow + my TV and computer on 24/7 my bill was about 250 a month.

now i really try to save energy. i turn my computer and TV off if im not using...all lights off....and i run my grow lights at night during off-peak hours.
