I did that for my bedroom when i was a kid, I just replaced the new 3 prong the same way the old one were connected, i just cant remember what i tied the ground to.

Question? When you get an electrician to increase the amps your room can handle, how do you ask the electrician this without being suspicious?

say aight dude i wanna grow 30 pounds of weed in here like that show on hbo ..... oO( then watch the price go from 125 to 275 ) j/k

theres a lot of things that use TON"S of power like "grow lights" pottery kilns, music and video rooms, air compressers, table saw's, huge salt water tanks "reef tank" it's all on where the room is in the house..... and really you don't "ask them" to increase amp's you "tell them" i want a 30 amp 240 line here. they work for you, u don't work for them..

I could live with paying $200-300 for an electrician but if its anymore than that I may have to get some help from friends to do this instead of hiring a pro.

I look nerdy so I could say that Im building a server room i guess.

Eternal lanparty!! all your friends have OC'd gaming rigs with 1000W power supplys(not so rare) and come over to play :) who knows, the electrician likely wont care.

Actually, any electrician worth his snuff is going to ask you what you want to use the circuit for. This is for two reasons. First, to make sure that you are not being penny wise and pound foolish. Lots of people come up with lots of hair-brained ideas that often are not the most cost effective or most efficient way of doing things. This isn't being nosy, it is being professional. Secondly, if you overload the new circuit and problem occur, the electrician doesn't want to get sued.

That being said, electricians are very much accustomed to being handed specs and told to do a job and doing it with no questions asked. It's dealing directly with homeowners where one gets a little inquisitive, but it's only for the reasons stated above.

If you tell the electrician, "the computer guy said I need this." or "The kiln company said this is what I need." - something along those lines - questions will probably be avoided.

Hope this helps!
