Someone made it to my spot before me but I still made out ok:
I think this year will pretty much be a bust in this area. Been checking out known producing areas and potential new spots and nothing yet. We need some cold, rainy weather for a few days or I'll start looking for King boletes soon. Thanks dude. They are a very well camo'd fungi. Especially when they grow in areas like Gabe posted last page. They blend in with the pine cones.
I've gotten epic harvests of morels at this altitude later April. I had garbage bags full by Easter and got tired of picking and eating them. They should be popping right now. I will say though I have only seen a few 'hole in the ground mushrooms', don't know what the actual name is, and they are prevalent right before the morels go crazy. When I see 'hole in the grounds' I know morels are around.Woah 4000'? Dude I don't find anything at that elevation until mid May. Boletes at 4000' mid June. Maybe go back in two weeks?
Cep...just got word that morels are starting to pop at 5-6,000' just south of the OR border. This year was pretty much a total bust for them. Also they said they're finding a few King boletes already. Weird year for sure. I was seeing some white russula's around my place a week or so ago and those are fall mushrooms. There was a huge flush of those last fall.
...found some morels in my garden!
who'da thunk?
first ever. i'm hooked.
