Early Wonder Skunk Confusion ? ? ?

I'm looking on some site that has Early Wonder Skunk and they say it's an Auto Flowering plant.

I've never heard of it before, is it a true 100% Auto Flowering plant?

They say harvest outdoors between July - August, but I thought with Auto Flower strains you could grow in any lighting and all year round outdoors.

some guys in the auto section say it's not 100% auto. Go check the auto flower buyers guide, i think there are some replies about it there.

We have grown this strain before, and the other strain by the same breeder. They are Auto flowering for sure.
Had some plants finish within 7 weeks from seed, 4grams of bud. (cannabis is not potent at that age)

I had some good plants that finished end of August that yeilded about 6ozs of tasty, mildly potent herb.
Other phenos were earlier and not dense at all, low yeild, low potency shwagg.

Another friend grew out a bunch last year and he was extremely disappointed. Called it a waste of summer.

Just my opinion. This strain did win competitions in BC here, but I wasnt there so I cant comment.

if you do a search here or another site under DaShadow there is a fair bit of info on this strain, he has worked with it for a while.

hey outdoordreams,

so would you reccomend this strain? I'm 3 weeks into growing some out for seeds for this summer in BC. Are they worth it? or should I go with something else early & potent like Dutch treat from VSB instead.

What size of pot did you use for outdoors? I'm thinking 3 gallon. Another guy on here (biggysmallsbud) did 5 gallon with 3 or 4 plants per pot and they grew well.

This is why I'll never grow auto anything.

If you are making your own seeds, I would try them out. But would not count on them to fill your jars for winter. There was one plant that managed to get me high.

I also remember one plant that was very early to start flowering, but after about 11weeks in flower, she still looked like she could have gone longer. (still lacked any real high)

I would recommend root bounding these girls to avoid this last problem.

really? so the EWS is really lacking potency in your opinion? especially if homegrown seeds are breed out?

I went and bought 10 dutch treat seeds, and 25 BC skunk from bcseedking and hopefully the seeds from the EWS will grow out to be potent outdoor girls. Need a consistant yielding potent early outdoor straing so hopefully one of these will be winners.

I might even consider cracking these dutch treats and cloning them if the EWS is really so bad.

I managed to pop a few of these beans very recently. Just yesterday they went into soil in 20oz cups.
I think what I gathered from this thread leads me to this plan for them:
I was already planning on 3-4 weeks indoors under 24/0 or maybe 20/4 CFL lights. Then they will go outdoors, where daylight will be past 12/12 already, but not by much.
I will use an assortment of pot sizes. I have some 5gal, some 2-3gal, and I want to get a couple 1gal, to experiment with maturation vs. pot size.

I really hope to have one finish by end of May in time for a nice long MemorialDay weekend. That is 11 weeks and a few days from now.
Clearly not enough time for a proper cure, but I could do the water cure on some, and some edibles as well.

Absolutely!
Once they peek above the soil, I'll start my own thread on them, and there's some background in my journal, and I'll put a grow report in the appropriate sticky.

I won't really have a basis for comparison for a smoke report. While I used to be an all day everyday toker, it's actually been nearly four years since I had access to any. :(

Glad your seeds finally popped Presto D. Really excited about your journalplans.
Have a good one.

Dutch treatx mighty might is a great choice for outdoors in the North Latitudes, it's not really an AF but starts to flower at 18-6 or if grown inside under 24 hr light it will start soon after it is put outside. The yeild is around two ounces and it has a great fruity flavour and up high. I grew it in the nineties until my seed stock got pollutted by ruderalis indica and the potency went out the window.

I grew this strain 4 years ago and it was great very strong finished end of aug start of sept when planted first week of may. you can get anywere from 1-6 oz .. ive never been disapointed with an outcome of a true EWS! last season i crossed it with the autoak47 .. buddy who bread the strains for me had a couple plants in his flower room turn hermaphrodite and partially polinated our EWS we were seeding out. so we ended up with plants like EWS / Autoak / what ever turned out from the hermys pollen.. we harvested the ones that autoflowered by start of sept and they were great but all i really wanted was the ews not the crosses i ended up with so i bought 20 more seeds for this season! I do believe this strain is worth growing infact i am crossing it with purple kush and critical mass. the strain is anywere from photosensative to autoflowering.. not like autoak47 it grows till its either root bound then flowers or after june 25 or so when it notices the days start getn shorter depending were you are.. if you get shitty weed with little yeilds then you gotta be doing somthn wrong because it is a great strain! im doing the breeders other cross emerald wonder this year and am thinking fo getn the other one they have as well!

We just gre out a pack of 10 EWS inside for a seed run, we got 7 of the ten to pop and they were all girls, some finish in 8 weeks from seed, they were of moderate potency with a strong skunky smell, Had 2 plants in a bay window and they stunk up the whole house. The one we bred was larger in stature about 21/2 feet or 90 cm tall and had a fat top cola with a halo of 5 signifigant buds beneath it, same skunky smell but this one took 12 weeks from seed to being loaded with ripe seeds. I smoked a seed casing jay after we picked the seeds out and must say it packed a whallop- a very racy old fashioned Sativa Skunk high, like was common in the 80s, great pot for getting things done, I work in my veggie garden for hours , kept misplacing tools but had a wonderful evening! Since we had no males we used one of my Ankle-biter X Sweetooth males- hopefully the swt will improve the taste which was harsh and grassy.
