In Ohio a few years ago it was proposed that e-cigarettes be taxed a horrendous amount, its in the article below. People have been quitting cigarettes by vaping. Because of the waste of money and outright stealing of tax payer money all Democrat states have found themselves in financial trouble of their own making. Because of quid pro quo's between State Governments and their Unions they have milked the people out of billions and blown it on Union's pensions and health benefits but there isn't enough money to pay for all the taxes needed to off set these time bombs; not enough money for the retiree's of state pension plans. Look for blue states going bankrupt and retirees having nothing because the politicians spent it decades ago, its called a "Ponzi Scheme" all the big cities the Democrats run are crime ridden and going down, they are all like Chicago, crime stats here; heyjackass.com

E-Cigarette Battery Hazards Minuscule and Overblown

Breathless reports of e-cigarette battery explosions have appeared recently in the Journal of the American Dental Association (here) and Cornea (here). The latter article, alluding to a “number of media reports,” claimed that “e-cigarettes pose a significant public health risk.” Clive Bates labeled that claim “inappropriate and alarmist” in his excellent PubMed Commons comment (here).

Bates explained that “Risk is a quantitative concept or it is meaningless… Claims that products or behaviours cause significant public health risks need to be proportionate and reflect both absolute risks (how much harm is caused) and relative risks - i.e. set in appropriate context by reference to risks arising from other common products and activities.”

In other words, the risk of e-cig accidents should be assessed in relation to smoking-related accidents.

According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), “Twenty-five separate incidents of explosion and fire involving an e-cigarette were reported in the United States media between 2009 and August 2014…nine injuries and no deaths.” (here) The agency concluded: “Fires or explosions caused by e-cigarettes are rare.” [There has been a few more just recently so the number might be 10 or 20, got to offset with the hundred of thousands who quit because of e-cigs.]

In contrast, the FEMA chart above shows that smoking caused 40,000 residential fires, 1,665 fire deaths and 4,550 fire injuries over roughly the same period (source here). Clearly, a switch from combustible to electronic cigarettes will substantially decrease fire hazards as it reduces the 400,000+ annual deaths from cancers, cardiovascular and lung diseases.

"E-cigarettes have lithium-ion batteries. Battery explosions and fires, which also occur with cell phones and laptop computers, are rare events that can be prevented with quality control in manufacturing and with responsible use -- charging with manufacturer-recommended power adaptors and handling and storing appropriately, for example.

In any rational analysis, the real public health hazard is smoking.

Its just odd when I see a news story bout E-Cigs being dangerous....
You NEVER see the news stories about how many people died TODAY from smoking related illness...

I used to own 3 vapor stores, my first store stopped counting at 10,000 people that we got off cigarettes...
Where is the news story that a product SAVED 10,000+ lives?

this, this, this, a fucking THOUSAND times THIS! :thank you: SO much for pointing out the truth, krunchbubble. i am sick to damn death of folks trying to deflect attention from REAL problems by piling dirt on molehills & screaming "it's a MOUNTAIN!"

Damn!.....that's sooo bloody dangerous! 5 DEAD PEOPLE....EHHH...WHOOPS, I mean 9 INJURED PEOPLE in 9 years...
I saw a news report that one guy had his FAMILY JEWELS TOASTED!, by some over rambunctious battery that went all incendiary device on him...

These E-Ciggie Vapes must be almost as dangerous as taking up Shetland Pony riding, or the old pub game called 'Shove Ha'penny'....

My advice is to make sure that your bollocks are well insured before you take up such a lethal sport...

There are so many brands of e-cigs and vapor pens, you can't even count them anymore.

Almost all are made in China, so quality varies, esp. in the batteries which seem to be what causes the problems. Chinese batteries can mess any device up, including iphones and laptops, and may in fact be the cause of hundreds of deaths (due to battery explosions/fires in planes).

So don't buy a cheapo vape pen as you might regret it someday...

Id put more blame of people who have zero clue about resistance and power. People who wire up these .00000078 ohm coils and expect everything to work perfectly the several hundred times they take a hit everyday....

The batteries blow up BECAUSE of these ridiculous loads on them. Not because they are bad "Chinese" batteries. People seek out the highest quality batteries to use, they dont skimp on that part....

They skimp on taking an electronics class to understand that you cannot create 10,000 watts out of a 4" battery....

Mostly user error....
