Above is the Ethos Durban hybrid, day 53. I just put up a full room video on budbuilders in my grow thread there if you care to look.........these will go til day 74 or so, then I’m forced to chop since I’m having some surgery shortly after and will be down and out for a few days.

I loved the pheno so much I crossed it with our special Filipino male; main goal was to breed out the indica traits they used to make it a fast flowering cultivar. This is the Dutch Durban F1 today October 11th (49th parallel)

Completely different beast. We estimate a mid November finish.

We call this one BC Dutch Nightmare.

the opening post of this thread mentions how unlikely it is to get a licorice smelling flower. I ran the dutch, it was definitely licorice. Maybe closer to red gum drops, but it's basically the same smell. it also had a dried milk smell that developed as it cured in the jar. so, the licorice is there, even in its lowest form. however, it was not potent and i have little interest in running it again. the high was not pleasant and basically made me not enjoy any other buds the rest of the day.

Would there be any Durban leaning phenos in the Serious 6? I know it has liquorice and lemony terps. African and Canadian genetics so I'm assuming Simon crossed a Durban with a Friesland/Freezeland. Friesland more than likely was a dutch Durban/Skunk cross made by SSSC in the late 80s. Serious 6 is short flowering almost pure sativa. Has to be a good amount of Durban somewhere in that strain. Some of the later taller phenos sure have that Durban vibe to them.

I just had a look, serious 6 sounds interesting. I am in Canada and never heard of any Canadian breeder using a pure Durban to cross something, I also haven’t meet all breeders. Depends if it’s coming from east or west Canada.
The only cross with a legendary past is called Texada Timewrap and has an indica mixed in there despite being a Sativa dominant cultivar.
Makes me wonder if there is an actual pure or IBL Durban from the past, as all the Durbans I have seen (including the kawazulu-natal) have shown indica trait phenotypes, the fast flowering trait comes from a fast flowering indica (potentially a hash plant), at least the ones passed around in Canada.
A pure Sativa doesn’t have a fast flowering trait, neither a pure African Sativa for that count.

What I keep from this Dutch Durban is their “fast flowering” capability and the bullet proof resistance to mildew, mold and rot. 2 traits I seen in the Dutch Durban and decided to keep.

Is anyone in this thread familiar with the Durban Poison from Sacred Seed that used to be sold by VancouverSeedBank?

A friend has some that he's been using for years and I'm interested in growing it again.

The liqourous flavor is specifically what I want from DP.

Thanks 😊

Here are some pictures of a Dutch Passion Durban Poison. I had to harvest a bit early. Can‘t say if I found liqourice flavours I haven‘t tried it yet. It‘s a robust outdoorplant but definitely with indica in it. View attachment 18903606 View attachment 18903607 View attachment 18903608 View attachment 18903609 View attachment 18903610

Beautiful looking pheno, and the finishing Color reminds me of the one I did last year. One thing I found somewhat negative is that the effect of the high is moderate not a potent smoke.

Enjoy

Yes, definitely. I tried some bud of a friend who grew it indoors. It was a mellow high. The weird thing was that it helped me sleep. The high was uplifting but the come down made me tired. So if you time it right you get a good mixture of both worlds. But I think my buddy pushed his plant pretty far. I‘m keen to try this one.

I smoked it all day, found it to be one of those highs that can be done all day long. For people that can appreciate the moderate lift off with the comfy come down definitely the Durban is the place to hit.

A couple of more pics from last years Dutch Durban Poison

The frist picture looks very similar to mine. Your leafs look a bit more leaning to the sativa side I guess.
The Buds were very dense and hard early on. They grew all along the stem and had a lot of leafs coming out.
Can you tell me how much time went past between those two pictures?
First pistils showed around end of July, by mid august it was flowering. September 13th one of the photos and the last one harvest day October 20th. All done outdoors. I felt I could let it go till the end of October but choked because of the weather conditions.
At the time of harvest absolutely no mold, rot, mildew. That’s why I kept these trait and my F1 is showing the same resistance but the flowering time is longer, already passed the harvest window from last year. Confident I can get it to run til November.

I was wrong about the breeders name. It was Ancestral Seeds, sold through VSB. They had a durban poison. It was said to have been smoked by Dana Larsen, who said it was actual durban poison.
