I was gifted a thousand or so DP durban poison seeds that have been acclimatized here over the years...

And about the smoke hangover, When I smoke Durban hybrids I sometimes get headaches, they're usually pretty racy and give me bad vibes. It holds chemical nutrients like camel as well. I've never smoked the pure DP but my friend says it's quite light and not very potent. Anyhow heres a pick of my only plant last year, turned out to be a male.

My experience with durban is with a very different cut... big, dense nugs, sometimes purple. but the smell is just the same every single time... amazing

Real durban is sticky as you cannot believe sativa..which came is poisons, wrapped 'stoppe' or 'sticks' or 'fingers' of a bud or two rolled up or folded in a little square of magazine, newspaper or telephone book etc. The buds would be stuck together and have taken the shape of the rolled finger. I remember back in the day in durban trying to chop up buds unsuccessfully with scissors. We had bought them for 10 US cents each for a 'poison' from 'rasta's cafe' with the police outside sorting out drunk and fighting locals and 'rasta' hitting a challus infront of them by the stairs to the shop with reggae music blaring telling em to take the drunks and fuck off from from his shop with 'poisons' proudly displayed on the counter next to the chappies in bags rolled down. Classic..The scissors would gum up after a chop or 2 and would have to be cleaned and there were minimum seeds. I got sold much 'durban' by dishonest merchants but most were from swaziland or trankei. But real durban is dank, smaller plant than swazi and shares same or simiar lineage and also envolves indentured indians and genetic injection from days past like swazi more so than other southern african stuff. You can see the structure in the cookies growth.. But like other african stuff, one field will be fire and the one nextdoor will be jat. May the poison be revived :)

I am smoking rarely. When i tried Durban Poison, woow. It was really nice trip, doesnt's feel like pure sativa. It wasn't pure mature, i would say it was 70% ready to harvest. It adds energy and alot of fast imagination thinking in your mind. It is true aphrodisiac, you have endless alacrity to sex. When main part of high is ending (past 45-1hour) it comes indica. I wasn't feeling afraid by some delusions, great smoking for me. I described Durban from Dutch Passion. ;)

Durban is one of my favourite strains ,shes a truly amazing plant .and the high is strong, and HEADY!,real thinking weed ,shes a true blonde, wonderful hash making strain

so looking at durban seeds it seems its between sensi and DP for the closest thing to the original huh. done quite a bit of searching on this strain too and it seems Dp has a slightly better rep for their durban but who knows. It has been run so many times and so many reviews ranging from good to bad on both make it very hard to pick when looking for a seed vendor. its almost choosing a better of two evils. I would love to smoke something like the original african strain let alone have the chance to grow out such an awesome sativa strain as such.

Will be posting more over here once a breeder is decided as we hope to get a durban project in some dirt early '14.

Fla, I run the Durban from DP although it's an IBL from their genes I would vouch for it. It grows like an indica in veg with big fat leaves but stretches at the on set of flowering and finishes rather quickly. Dominates in every cross, too the point where the durban is still biased in one quarter Durban F1 hyrbids. It has a fresh smell that is all it's own. It really is a missing link in comparison to other landraces. I would go with beans from HD, they've been getting the real deal for some time now.

Durban Punch by Tropical Seeds Company might be also worth a consideration.
Its a BX1 to a Ciskei father [(Durban Poison x Ciskei P3) x Ciskei P3] with a stated flowering time of "75-85 days ". So you could say it is a cross between two South African strains.

As far as I know the Durban Seeds are aquired from " African Herbman " who posted e.g. in the African photo thread.

They also have quite a few other African Landraces like the Zambian
(originally from African Seeds and further selected), Swazi, the old Ciskei (Bushman) from Herbaria Seeds and Congo Pointe Noire.

Personally, the closest thing to Durban I have encountered so far was Power Plant (South African Sat/Indica Hybrid) in the Netherlands around 6 years ago.
Was a Coffeeshop in Northfriesland (Sneek). The High started almost instantly and peaked into something that was very strong with really a lot of uncomfortable heartbeating and brighter, more intense colors. Nevertheless a terrific experience :)

To all you Durban fans.. There's a fairly new(?) seed company called Seeds of Africa which specialise in pure African genetics. They have a variety called Durban Magic on their menu which is a pure bred.

Maybe its been mentioned already and if so sorry for repeating..

Hope this helps :)

A very sweet santa looking grow buddy of mine came by an had this gift for me. He had got some seeds from Africa an grew them out.

They had 14 weeks, and he´ll make an open pollination with selected males/females. Cant wait to test my first time DP
