durban poison - variations between breeders

I remember reading a story about Durban Poison in High Times during the mid-late 90's and they were saying that it was known for its hallucinogenic natures. Ever since, I have always wanted to try this strain in its original form. I have grown out Durban Poison from Nirvana and I was surprised to actually find some almost pure sativa looking plants, however none of them had any hallucinogenic-like qualities. The high wasn't incredibly heady or trippy either, but for $25 a pack I'd say they're definitely worth a grow. It was a very easy-to-grow strain and the potency was slightly above average imo. The BEST Durban Poison I have ever smoked came from an old hippie friend that has what he calls "a pure Durban African sativa" and has been growing it for quite a few years. The shit is straight killer...have you buggin' out of your face type herb!! He gave me a few seeds and I was able to find one really nice male that I used to cross w/ a NYCD f2 x StrawBerry Diesel female. Produced some really nice plants and the male definitely added that trippy UP buzz to the high. Still have a few of the original Durban seeds left that I put away for a rainy day. Will be looking through these Strawberry Diesel Durbans for now! :D

I have a local grower friend who relocated from SA about ten years ago. 2 years ago he gave me 7 DP seeds in a package with the africanseeds.com logo. 2 germinated, both female. I crossed them with what I had at hand but didn't save clones because I didn't have the space. I chose not to save clones because the two mother DP's weren't all that potent, though they did smell nice and looked absolutely beautitful growing. I sort of wish I had saved clones, because the bud of those ladies really tasted nice after a month or so of curing. I don't think I'd grow a strain with that level of potency indoors, no matter how ornamental or nice tasting the plants are.

I gave the F1 DP X 'master race' seeds to my SA friend and he gave me back two select ladies and a male. I made F2 seeds but they're not planted yet. Both F1 females were so special I regenerated and cloned them both. The high of these F1's is extremely 'up' and gets people laughiing and dancing.

I am hoping to get a cutting of DP. said to be a slow grower but flowers fast and stretches a lot, decent yields and strong flavor.

I grew out DP Durban poison maybe 5 years ago and it was awsome. Finished early great up buzz. Yeild was ok... I did it outside. It was in Canada and finished before end SEPT.

Dutch Passion

Dutch Passion

I have sampled a Dutch Passion Durban Poison that was grown outside in the UK, it was a lovely tasting herb, nothing like I had ever tasted before, the high was very good too, clear, sociable but not over powering or racy like its suggested it should be, I would reccommend it to anyone with depression.:huggg:
The smell of the cured bud was lovely, unique.
I wish I had eaten some, to perhaps see how it faired that way.

I would like to grow this one myself sometime, maybe indoors.
also worth mentioning is I try not to read too much into the politics of seedbanks as afterall they are all competing for your money so it stands to reason that some bad press will be slapped on every seedbank if they are doing well or badly, eventually.
You cannot please everyone all of the time.

If you want pure Durban seeds maybe RSC would with enough demand/enquiry?

It's a shame that all the Durban Poison strains available nowadays are hybrids... I mean Dutch Passion, Sensi, Nirvana, etc. They could be ok, but nothing to do with pure african genes.

The legit Durbans were the ones from Afropips, African Seeds and Tropical Seeds works now with a pure long flowering durban as well, sourced from African Herbman himself, but was never released in pure form.

I never tried Durbans but had some experience with other South Africans, when I tried Afropips and African Seeds Swaziland lines both were similar and outstanding, with a great active high and final relaxing sensation. I've hear that Tropical Seeds/African Herbman's Swazi is much more caffeine like as well! :)
