Drilling in glass liqueur bottles

Any one got any tips or suggestions about what type drill bits to buy and how to drill into a glass liqueur bottle to make a bong with out breaking-shattering the bottle. I haven't bought anything but the liqueur yet. The bottles of Grand Marnier have a flat round spot with a wax seal, it looks like a perfect place for a stem. Pop a small carb hole on the back and baddaboom baddabing, bong! Any help is appreciated!

I have a Goldschlagger bottle that I made into a sweet bong with a slide.

Here are the directions I typed out for anyone who is interested. :smile:

GO FOR IT!!

First, do a search for "14mm Diamond coated drill bit" . You can order them cheaply from HK and they arrive within two weeks.

Second, drink some liquor. I like Goldschlagger bottles (hate the liquor though). The smaller ones hit like a mofo, but the big ones are nice too.

Once you get over your hangover, go to the local head shop and ask for a replacement down stem (14mm). Also get a grog piece and a bowl that will go nicely with your set-up.

Fourth, get a drill and put the bit in. Go to your kitchen sink and turn the water on low and center the drill where you want to put the down stem.

Put a decent amount of pressure down while you are drilling at first. It will try and slip around on you. Once it develops a grove in the glass, its smooth sailing.

I've done this more than five times with no problems. Make sure to clean out the inside of the glass bottle really well (there is glass dust in there).

Put the rubber grog into the new hole, then soap up the down stem that is going to be in the bottle and push it through. Rinse again.

Finally, sit back an observe your masterpiece.






They are extremly sturdy compared to regular bongs. Really cheap, and quite a novelty. Good luck. Feel free to ask more questions if anything was unclear.

Ohh yeah, Drill WITH THE WAX STILL ON the bottle. It will help when you start to develop the "groove" in the glass. Go slow, use water.

You can even try on a beer bottle first.

I have done this a number of times with liquor bottles using industrial diamond dremel bits and the one piece of advice I have is WEAR A DUSTMASK AND GOGGLES. There is a lot of glass dust going to be flying around. And as Confused said, clean out the bottle real well too because it will fill up with glass dust. BUT WEAR A DUSTMASK AND GOGGLES!!!!!

And apply even pressure throughout the drilling or your drill will vibrate and can crack weaker glass.

yes drill with pressure but not too hard, also maybe take breaks every 5 minutes or so to let the drillbit cool down, that will help the glass not to be cracked. here are the drillbits you should be looking for...

think about making a reverse-gravity bong... strongest smoking apparatus there is...

Thanks everyone! I've seen the paddle type bits and I've seen some other bits that are just round with diamond chips embedded in them. Neither seems to be on the shelf at the hardware store so I will have to order off the net. Anybody tried the round cylinder shaped bits? All I can think of with the lube comment is the old lady is gonna wonder why I'm hauling the Ky out of the bedroom.

I'm just looking to make a small bong that will look like a liqueur bottle sitting on the shelf. Tired of smoking j'z, I miss my hitskeyz for sure. These days I have some of the finest smoke I've ever had in my life and I feel I'm wasting all the taste with j'z. Something about a smooth hit through a water bong, all the taste, the flavors, the expansion when it hits your lungs just before you cough so hard you gag. Oh yeah, I miss it.

King Ralph, i must agree with you on that, reverse gravity bongs or waterfall bongs as i call them hit incredibly hard. Pretty much any single one will put you on your ass.

Great thread. I've thought about this too, both with drill bits and those torches that are also the gas tanks. The drill seems like a better idea though.

But wtf is a grog piece? It's the rubber ring that goes around the downstem(not the bowlpiece), right? They sell those at headshops? What about online sources, in case my headshop doesn't have them.

I use the circle drill bits with the diamond around them. I that kind of bit would work too. That reverse GB looks like it would make your eyes sink into the back of your head!!

The 14mm diamond coated bit drills a perfect hole for the down stem (one thats a circle with the diamond dust on it). Flowing water from the sink works to keep it from cracking and dust from flying. Just go slow...

Yeah the grog piece (I didn't know what else to call it) is the piece of rubber that goes around the down stem not the bowl. I've looked for them online. I also looked for just clear 14mm down stems online, but no luck. Head shop usually carry all of these pieces as replacement for broken items.

I've found grommets,O-rings in the electrical department at the hardware store. They're around the wire nuts,zip strip type items. Been using them and screens from plumbing for years. My little bong I traded a puzzle box for years ago(funny how the trades are always better than store bought) got broke in the fall. I sure do miss it. And yep, the gravity bong, well, looks like good night Eileen for sure! Now I gotta convert metric to inches, US thing but I believe a 1/2" is gonna be my best bet. Maybe a 3/8 or 5/16 for a carb hole unless I luck up on the glass stem that lifts out but I like the old metal stuff that will take a tapping and keep on ticking or kicking. I appreciate the tips everyone. Peace!

The Easiest Reverse GB to make in the world.

Get a Sobe Bottle. A hammer and a nail.

On the bottom ring of the bottle there is a indentation into the glass. Smack with Nail and Hammer. clean out the break. remove all glass.

Fix lid to be used as a bowl.

You have a RGB that cost you 1.29

^^^Not to sound stupid...however wouldn't a bottomless bottle with attached bowl be a normal gravity bong? In my mind I see a Reverse Gravity being like a 'lung', a chamber with a bag at the end you pull out to create suction...bypassing the whole water scenario.

Either way I think Sobe purposely makes their bottles like that, I've heard of people doing that since before Overgrow.

I've used aluminum oxide dremel attachments to drill holes in bottles. Like everyone says, slow and steady.
