No one was debating whether or not to download torrents. We were debating whether or not downloading torrents is the same as other forms of sharing. If you know just the littliest thing about computers you should not be using torrents. Giganews/vyprvpn is a start.

It is hard to become members or even find some private sites. If you have any invites I would love to get one. I used to have access to one, but didn't have internet access for a year or so and completely forgot the name of it.

They are the best sources for newly released movies / games that actually work.

Just downloading can get you into trouble. Some movie companies put up torrents to their things and then get the IP's from all who connect and download. Its a sting operation like when cops dress as hookers to see who bites.
A friend of mine during the good old Napster days downloaded mostly movies. The ISP send him a letter listing not only what files he was accused of downloading, but it also showed the path of where it was stored on his hard drive. They said delete them and don't do it again. Not only did he comply, he formatted his drive and reinstalled the OS and his needed programs to be sure there was nothing illegal on his computer and never did P2P or torrents again. He had and still has a good paying federal job and didn't want the risk of loosing money and the job.

Your arguing that somehow only watching the show once absolves you from all criminal liability. It doesn't it's just that much harder to prove, not that anyone is going to waste their time trying to anyway. I don't understand your hypocritical ways please the federal warning is very clear. ANY reproduction, distribution, or EXHIBITION is illegal. So by watching an illegal stream you are doing the same thing please shut the fuck up

Mate ive been using torrents from public sites for years and i do know about computers. Ive had one cease and desist notice about 4 years ago which teaches one about fake torrents and common sense. Last month i busted my 50Gb limit on torrents.
Seems like some paranoia in this thread.

Use a seedbox. Then proxy or use a vpn into the box and dl your file direct. Simple and done.

BTW private sites are easy to get into if you have the cred. Alot of them you have to fill out apps for. Or get on an invite site to win invites or find out when sites open (usually a couple hours or less window)

Dont want a letter? Stay off Pirate Bay. FWIW the Porn industry is the most ruthless people when it comes to copyright. Who wants to go to court and have them read off all the titles you dl'? Most people settle. Big movie companies don't sue you they blacklist your Intrawebs connection through your ISP for good.

You can use torrents or you can learn usenet and have a better and safer experience. Like growing indoors with a carbon scrubber or not. I was just shedding some light on a better way to do things. But hey choose to remain ignorant.

Edit: After all this is the SECURITY forum right? We are supposed to debate ways to improve security not pat ourselves on the back for taking the easiest method to do something that may expose us to more liability.

If you want security and morality minus the liability, then dont download torrents or use any form of file sharing at all.

Your "crime" of downloading a movie does hurt someone. It hurts the pocketbook of those who made it and not just the rich stars either. It hurts everyone single person and business in the credits.

If you want to download stuff then use something other than torrents. If you don't know then google.

Giving you an invite would create a link between my account here and any account I may have on another site, and would constitute a minor security breach, so I must politely decline and I hope you understand.

What I can tell you is how I got on private sites. Just look for sites with open sign-ups and join those. Torrent for a while and get your ratio and user class up. Most of them have invite forums that need to be class-restricted per the rules of many of the big private sites. Once you get access to those there will be people offering invites.
