how do you guys with sealed rooms prevent leaks from the doors?

theres a framed hole for the door and a standard door was bought, it will be installed shortly and wanted to know if anyone had any pointers or tricks for leaving the room as sealed as possible when a regular door is used?

thanks

put a sweep on the bottom of the door and you can use weatherstripping to seal around the perimeter. I dont think you will get much air going through the door depending on your ventilation setup.

well its a sealed room, the only plans for ventilation where extracting the heat from the lights, rest will be handled with a/c and dehumidifier

I run a sealed 10x10x10 room. What I did was to install a door sweep at the bottom, as advised by yamaha_1fan. Additionally, I run weatherstripping around the perimeter of the door. It's quite easy, you should have no problems.

weatherstripping on it's own isn't totally leak proof and it depends how you use it ... I put in a 1/2" stop all around (except the bottom) on the frame about 1/4" in from the door and then I use weather stripping on the stop. I actually use one set of firm w/s on the stop and another light foam on the door directly opposite to even out my uneven framing. Also, door sweep on the bottom alone is useless - well, it depends how sealed you want ... I use a sweep on the inside to keep as much smell and CO2 as possible in the room when I'm inside the room, but then when I close it all up and leave, I put in foam strips under the door gap to totally seal it up.

Hey guys,

I don't run a sealed room anymore but when I did I used a thick poly zipper door. Staple 6mil black poly to the inside of the door frame including the floor and then use Tyvek tape to completely seal the edges. Install a zipper door in the middle of the poly (these are sold at growshops and depot or lowes in the paint dept.) This is the only way that I know of to truely seal a door.

Good Luck

Taxiboy, thanks i will be looking into the weather stripping..

Coolx, thats a good idea, i was allready wondering how i can put weather stripping effectivley and making that border around the door will do the job im sure..

Dongle, that seems like a good sweep, do you use one your self? the website reminds me of them infomercials on tv which catch your attention but at the same time makes you think to your self that its garbage lol

Alber, I allready ran that idea through my head cause i know someone who has there tomatoe room sealed and they did it the same way with the poly and the zipper but i think i'll pass on it unless the other options dont work

Thanks everyone for the input, the door should be going up this weekend :joint:
