Don't throw away your AF Trim - Budget hash guide & AF Hash pics
After my secret garden of purple run, I had a fair amount of trim
I didn't want to waste it, I normally make cannabutter, but this time I really wanted to make some hash.
I don't have the money for bubble bags at the moment so I thought i would throw up a little guide to how I went about making hash!
This is my first attempt ever so if anyone has any pointers or cheapo ways to make hash feel free to post.
I may try qwiso next time to compare the two methods end products but this time I wanted to try ice hash.
*This is by no means the best way to extract the most Resin from your trim, if you want to catch everything buy some bubble bags or look into other methods, But this cost me very little.*
EQUIPMENT -
Coffee filters - £1
Ice - £2
Tights - £2
Everything else I had in the house already but I will make a list.
Bucket 1 - I use this as a laundry bucket normally - Est capacity - 30 litres - this is my mixing bucket
Bucket 2 - Mop bucket - this is my collection bucket
Sieve - to catch the ice
18v Cordless drill
Wooden spoon x 1
Ladle x 1
Nutrient Syringe - 50ml ( i read that a turkey baster would be a good substitute for syringe)
Funnels x 3
Bowls x 3
2 litre pop bottles x 3
METHOD:
PREP WORK:
I used Frozen WET trim for this run.
Firstly make sure everything is CLEAN.
Fill up your two litre bottles of water, and place in the freezer 30mins - 1 hour, depending how cold your freezer is before you plan to mix
Charge drill in advance aswell -
Chop tights off just above the 'legs' and tie in a knot, place these tights over your collection bucket
Place a sieve on top of the tights/collection bucket, this will catch the ice as you pour the mixing buckets contents into them.
Remove trim from freezer - and chop up if it has clumped together. Not too fine, I chopped roughly at 1 cm Intervals.
Place chopped trim in a tub and put back in freezer for half an hour to get it freezing cold again.
LET THE FUN START! - MIXING
Put ice in your mixing bucket
Put trim on top
Pour the water from your two litre bottles into the bucket. This gave me about 6 - 8 inch to mix in my bucket
Mix for 5 mins. Let it rest for a few minutes. Mix again, rest again, Mix again - Total mixing time 15 mins. (this is a noisey process so if you have neighbours close by choose a reasonable time of day )
Now i emptied the contents of my mixing bucket into the collection bucket, removing ice cubes with the sieve.
Allowing the plant matter to be caught in the tights.
When the mixing bucket was empty, I then removed the tights with wet trim and wrung the tights out getting any of the water still in the trim into the collection bucket.
Now I let the collection bucket rest for 1-2 hours, this allows the trichs (heavier than water) to settle at the bottom and any fine trim that may have slipped through will float on top.
Now this is the careful bit!
I now have my collection bucket and I begin to remove the water using the ladle.
I do this as carefully as I can to prevent disturbing the trichs up from the bottom and floating in the water I'm removing.
I remove 2/3 to 3/4 of the water with the ladle.
Then the last few inches of water I remove with the nutrient syringe.
I found some trichs would stick to the side of the bucket, so it was best to remove water with the syringe from the middle of the bucket.
All this water i'm removing I'm placing in the bowls, so i can do another collection in case i caught any trichs in the water i've removed. I can then repeat the process of water removal in these bowls to get any trichs that settle in the bottom of those.
When you get right down to the bottom of the bucket, you will be able to see the crystals that have settled. It will kind of look like if you had sand or some dirt at the bottom of a bucket.
Keep a little water in there so you can swill the bottom of the bucket and get all the trichs into your filter (next step)
FILTERING - now this is the part you need to be patient and go find something else to do watching these filters drain is like watching paint dry!
I used two coffee filters - one inside the other - These are placed into the funnels - the funnels are placed in the mouth of a jar.
Pour the trich water into the filters.
Leave!! - These will take at least two hours to drain - maybe more.
You will see as the water is being filtered what it is leaving behind - it will look like a green paste.
When all the water has gone, I scraped the green substance that was left onto some plastic - something like an ice cream tub lid would do.
Then I left to dry over night - Putting it somewhere warm will aid the evaporation of the water.
Next day hash
The hash will look very green at first, but as it dries it will become darker!
My results!!
The first extraction of FS hash after drying was quite crumbly and rocky
The second extraction was softer and darker and the quality was less.
PB hash
Damn this hash is sticky!
First extraction - I left behind my laptop over night on some plastic - In the morning it was welded to the plastic - V.sticky!
I scraped it off though and was able to roll into a ball straight away - although was tricky as it was sticking to my fingers!
Side by Side
If i have missed anything or anyone has any questions feel free to ask.
I'd love to see other peoples AF hash photos added to this thread, so if you have made any, feel free.
