unless the most severe shock happens, hermies are always the result of weak genetics.

HawaiianGrown genetics can flower even during 13 1/2 hour days (more so the Indicas, but even sweet island sativas), but my mainland, canadian and dutch genetics never autoflower

How many harvests do you guys have per year outdoors in Hawaii? When I was just a pup I lived in Hanalei and weed was available all the time, the local stuff looked crummy to a weed snob from Ca like me but that's when I learned to love the island weed.Had only been used to outdoor Ca skunk and Thais and it took me a bit to realize the quality and leap over my big round green bud predjudices. It turned out that I found some unreal weed on the westside, what a climate.:)

If the weather cooperates it is possible to pull three harvests a year here.

If you plant a seed Jan 1st, by late April it will be ready. The buds may be loose, as the plant is confused by the slowly lenghting days, but the smaller ones will go off and be fine. A few elongate and won't be worth much.

Plant in April, harvest in October. This is our long season. Just like the mainland.

Plant in September. You get a 90 day wonder for Christmas. Since we get 11 hours of daylight or less, the plant will immediatly bud. Creating a tasty morsel. Small plant, great weed.

I prefer Sativas, so the above "timetable" is for them. Like Fest said many Indica strains will bud as soon as they are put outside. Year round. Our longest day is 13 hrs 22 mins if I remember correctly.

i was wondering about the soil on the island, can you plant straight in the ground in good areas our is there a need to dig and backfill with storebought?

Depends on the island. As you move NW each island is older. Here on Maui I plant my guerilla grow in straight dirt. All I bring in with me is ferts.

And yes. I think everybody should have 7 of these in their backyard.

Pic 1 is a long season Sativa girl.
Pic 2 was taken May 2010. I regrew her. It was planted Late Jan. The top has an OK bud, the bottoms are loose.
Pic 3 is a 90 day wonder.

All were grown last year. Three harvests are indeed possible here a year.
