Does today's music suck or what?

I know with technology we find ourselves dowloading music we like and watching youtube videos of music we like, but do you think that we're constantly trying to find music we like, or music we "liked" because today's music has gone to shit?

Turn the radio on in your car and listen to some of these stations. Have they run out of things to sing about? Have they run out of beats to sing on?

Doesn't it seem like the music was better years ago? What happened to the music!

Actually, I like to listen to the radio, I just switch the station until I find something worth jamming to

beats listening to cds, cause it's always new and unpredictable
cds i get tired of
sometimes I stumble on some super hits

and I discover music, or rediscover (songs I listened when I was young in the backseat of my parents car)

I agree there is alot of garbage, at least you can tell what is good and what isn't
i'm sure you can find something

there is a lot of artists in the world
you can always make your own :)

yeah, lots of it, but there are still hidden jewels to look for and enjoy !

Irie !

I find myself doing the same thing. Changing stations until I find something I like, but sometimes I flip through ALL the stations and force myself to listen to the best one out of the worst songs on there.

Until something good comes up.

I will say that music these day DOES NOT SUCK.........but I will say that mainstream, popular MTV music these days DOES SUCK. Miley Cyrus, c'mon?

There is TONS of great music coming out these days, in all genres....... but you will probably never hear any of it on MTV or even the radio, except for smaller, more eclectic stations, which I stick to.

Siruis/XM is great to find good, new music, just skip past the 'pop' an crap stations, and there is always great new, bluegrass, punk, rock, metal, country, hip hop, reggae, ska, newgrass and everything in between.

But yes, new mainstream teenybopper music does suck like a Hoover.

P.S. Check out a band called "The Devil Makes Three" on youtube- listen to Old Number 7. Great song. New band, just saw them a couple weeks ago play in front of a crowd of 30 people. Great NEW band, great music, if its your style.

mainstream music sucks, always, no matter what time period you're talking about lol.. but just as there were some awesome underground bands and genres back in the day, the same is true for today!

but yeah i'll agree, i almost vomit every time i hear the "Hot Jams 109.6fm" or whatever

Hot Jams 109.6! Sounds like our radio station out here, 92.3 The Beat. The problem is, the beats sound all cartoony and I'm thinking "do people actually listen to this crap?"

Some artists will come hard on their beats, and you are right, there is good music but I guess it's the mainstream thats killing me. I wonder what the people are like that buy this mainstream crap? If they like this kind of music, what kind of people are they? Is this the kind of melody in their heads?

Man, kind of scary to think that way. Makes it seem somewhat 'Robotic' when I think of people who actually REQUEST to have it played.

Are there robots amongst us?

Yep, tweenieboppin', apple-bottom jean and Ed Hardy wearing robots. Whatever the hell an applebottom jean is. Boots with the fur?

I disagree that mainstream music "always sucks".

Mainstream (FM) music in the 70's was great. Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, etc.

The problem today is that pop music is manufactured by the Disney Corporation.

most music today is too artificial made from electronic digitized sound bits...even though
it has its good points, it still aint the real deal.
Songsters today have their work cut out for em, look at what they have to follow..huh?
I mean, lets talk biggies here...Elvis, Michael, Aerosmith, Lynard Skynard...to name a
few (even if you dont agree with their music..still big names).
Most music today no longer really tells a story in song, just a crazy beat that almost
has no rythm or soul.
The 50's music was lovers music, the '60s was revolution, the '70s back again to
chill, the '80s dominated by music videos almost AND lets not forget rap and that
funky shit with all the blinkity lights and permanent press(yaay bee gees!)
Music has to talk to your soul, bring meaning to the moment and last in your mind
for a really long time, if it is good music.
that is except for the cutsie jingles from commercials...gad.

so if you turned on the radio in 1972, you think that a bunch of rock n' roll and hippy music would be on every channel? OHHHH, so THAT's why my parents are so cool and like rock...oh wait, its the total opposite

yes, today's "popular music" is garbage. every single song uses a vocoder, so no one has a voice anymore. everyone sounds like a robot. there are still bands making good music though. Radiohead and Mars Volta have produced a lot of good new music in the last couple of years. Phish put out a solid album a few months ago and are firing on all cylinders on tour. You just have to look harder for good current music. You can't turn the radio on to hear it anymore. That's why radio is dying a slow painful death right now..

there's still good music, you just have to look for it, i get what ya saying tho, turned on a local "dance" station i used to listen to years ago the other day and more or less every track had the same shitty effect on the vocals :nono:

with lyrics like

"ive been searching all over facebook"

music for the masses? almost always sucks....
nowadays i notice (mftm) are filled with advertisements and ultra-current pop culture references that will be almost obsolete in a year, but thats just the money making structure that studios follow.... manufactured is a good word for it :)

keep in mind that lots of the big producers for disney etc. graduated from yale and have a phd in music production... they are very skilled people, with bad guidance :)

just means we have to sift a bit harder though :) makes me appreciate the gems more
i also worship electronic music (talk about sifting)

Actually, I was starting to think today's music is getting better. The collapse of the music industry, due to the internet and file sharin,g forced the industry to go back to its old ways. They are now having to go back out there and find real talent. Something that was created in someones basement studio or garage, and not just something that's artificial and has no real feeling in it. You just have to know where to look for it.
