Do you wear your seatbelt?

I just saw something on the news that my state is trying to take the seatbelt laws from secondary (meaning they can write you a ticket for not wearing one once they've already pulled you over for something else) to primary (being able to pull you over just for not wearing one).

Now personally I try to wear my seatbelt as much as possible but sometimes I forget, and I don't wear it for short rides either.

I think it should be up to you though. If a person wants to die for not wearing a seatbelt it should be your own choice. To me this just seems like another way for cops to pull people over for no reason...as if they don't have enough ways already!

So do you wear your seatbelt and do you feel these seatbelt laws are fair?

They can already pull you over if you don't wear one here... thats why i always wear one. They are getting ready to make it where everybody in the car must wear one, even in the back seat and in trucks.

I ride bikes alot and i had friends die because they had a helmet on and a couple that died because they didnt have a helmet on,

i got thrown out of a car not wearing a belt and i believe i lived because it just wasn't my time.

when it's your time you will go. so hardly ever , mostly where em on the freeway.

I'm all for safety, however there's enough variables in an accident that seat belts and airbags can take lives, not wearing a seat belt can kill you. Walking on the sidewalk minding your own business can still get you killed by a car.

yeah, I wear one all the time. I posted in another thread a few days ago about rolling a car.... seat belt kept me in the car... no doubt in my mind they save lives.

take a peek at you tube for accidents/seatbelts. There was one video I saw on ogrish when it was free from censorship. It showed a guy sitting in his pickup no seat belt.. then he rolls... it shows his head getting squashed in the window as the roof collapsed on his head when he bounded around the car.... very sobering... anyone see that would wear a seat belt IMO.

Another thought to ponder when you're making a decision to wear your seatbelt or not.

If you were to get into shit as a driver, wouldn't you want to be safely tucked in so you can have half a chance of possibly regaining control after a violent spin or the like. Can't control the car too well when the driver is upside down in the back seat.

The decision to buckle up effects more than just you, including your passengers, and any bystanders or other motorists that happen to be around.

Wow, I really thought some of you were smarter than that.

It takes what...3 seconds to put your seatbelt on? And once you keep doing it, it becomes second nature and you'll feel strange without it on.

Also, the driver (me) is responsible for all passengers in the car and if someone hasn't got their belt on then you get penalised for it...it's also very dangerous for the others in the car as if you do happen to crash badly they will be thrown around and will most likely injure the others in the car.

Put your fuckin belt on.

Additional food for thought. Go to a junkyard where they let you walk around the boneyard, I visit these locations quite frequently, and more than once I've seen head imprints in the drivers side windshield.

One of them had blood and bits of hair in the cracks... There was no chance of this occuring with a seatbelt. Imagine breaking your windshield with your head. Ouch.

Of course I wear my seatbelt every time. Why would you not wear your seatbelt?????

On a side note, I do not wear my seat belt because the government tells me to. I wear it because I would be an idiot not too. Does it really take that much energy to pull and click people...

The government enacts these kind of laws because people are too stupid to do it by themselves. Sorry, I don't mean to offend anyone here but it's true. Depending on where you live, your local government gets to bank on the fact that some people still refuse to wear their seatbelt. Would you rather simply wear a seatbelt or get pulled over and pay the cops a hefty fine?
