Do you have rules?

Today I ventured intoa seedbank to find they had a sale going on...and was about to pull the trigger on a bunch of seeds...and reminded myself. I'm not going to buy anymore regular polyhybrids seeds and sorrt through looking for pephenos and females.
I have decided if I do regulars it will be heirlooms or landraces. That way if I get a stud it's a keeper not a mishmash of genetics that cannot be predicted. One exception might be a backcross but even then it would have to be genetics I couldn't get either way.

How do you decide what to buy or leave?
Sometimes I regret not pulling the trigger but then again I have many more seeds than i will be able to grow with current plant limits.

I don't do fads. So its a moot point for me. But I support where you are coming from.

Won’t buy seed packs over $100 was my rule.

For a new decade — Happy New Year! — and inflation purposes I’ll now bump up to $110 for a pack if need be, but I expect I’ll be stuck in my ways — $100 — for a while yet.

I took a chance on a 100 dollar pack last year and was very Happy but the same pack is 200 on the restock. There's lots of good stuff out there for 3 or 4 dollars a seed I think.

Impulse power! I buy whatever appeals to me when the timing is right. My environment has an influence. My space is very limited and nothing outdoors is possible. So I shop mostly fems, and roll the dice. I have grabbed a few appealing releases here and there but they get stored for later.

When I was into strain hunting for inventory purposes, the rule was get it immediately if you can because you don’t know when shit will hit the fan. Then it’s gone.

I have question for all of you. Do any of you buy those $100.00 strains? Being a novice I do not know shit. What I know is the strains I want and a lot of other people are the high dollar strains. Is it safe to say that these are the landrace or heirloom strains. Do not get me wrong i like hybrids and crosses, but I also want pure seed so i can have a fresh start if I want to make a cross. Just my 2 cents.

Only when the breeder is very well researched. I have had wonderful results with expensive strains but also had herm city. On the flip side, I’ve been very happy with some of the discount brands and occasional bag seed.

Ignore the breeder hype. Do lots and lots of reading before your drop any serious cash. Hell, talk to the breeder if that’s an option. And even then, crap shoot. If you look at my albums, I have pics of a great run with expensive ass Cali Connection seeds that I bought 7 years ago when they cost a lot more. In my album, the run goes great, wonderful rewards reaped. But from that same purchase, I had a hermies on a previous run. So nothing is set in stone. Knowing the breeder and having a place to voice your concerns is an asset that can’t be underused.

Yeah, never believe anything you read.
A great rule I read somewhere.

Before I ever did any kind of seed run, I bought a lot more seeds. After one seed run, and realizing what seeds really are, where they come from, and how easy they are to make (Duh!), I haven't bought any seeds in a couple years.

But I think I'm about to come back around and buy a couple packs. One each from two seed companies I have come to appreciate-Crockett Farms and Bodhi. I would buy more gear from Chimera also, his gear is good.

But there's a new seed company every other day now, it seems. Anybody that can make a logo can get in the seed game apparently. My 2 cents

Agreed, there are a couple of breeders and proprietor who actually called and answered my phone calls when I needed information. That wins a lot of loyalty. Anyone can pm me for my experiences.

I like to look to see if a strain has been used in a lot of crosses. Smoke reports are helpful as well. On the cheap landraces I just see that as a trade off, you know there will be runts, hermied etc. Your looking for that one plant in 25 or 50. If you are getting seeds for 2.50 each they don't have to be perfect? The 100 dollar stuff might be the best investment for a beginner.

I had to learn awhile ago not to start or buy seeds off the basis of good parents. Especially with the random seedbanks and not well known names. One good parent doesn't prevent weak, bad or underperforming or the awful hermie seeds.

Well, I 'm an outdoor grower and someone here gave me Mango Haze seeds. ( Even tho' it's illegal. Shhh.) I think of Mango Haze as Green Speed. It is an energiser!

And it turns out the same every time I grow it. And it grows fukn big with lots of heads. And it's drought, mould and fusarium resistant.

Through the generosity of members of this site I have been gifted a wide variety of seeds. From Autos to the latest Hindu Kush X GG Bubble which latter is a cute soft green little plant with early flowers. And I note the unique qualities of these varieties ...

But so far I think Mango Haze is the best. I had a male last season and today have enough seeds to grow until the day I 'm unable to lift a bag of cowshit and am forced to stop growing. So for me, I 'm one, your question is moot.

But fukit! Just do what you do. And keep on doing what you do. It's cool ...

Always put a second container under a water tank if you are growing indoors.

Cause they break and it's either your security deposit or your property.

I see pretty much all the mainstream seeds bank as a ripoff...
Because they can't perform the basic duties of breeding...selection of good traits.

The fact that this plant has been banned in many country and then in some place decriminalized reduced a lot the quantity of reliable and professional breeders and give opportunity to a lot of mid grade scumbags business guys....
But even a serious breeder quickly realize that is gone make much more money banging 2 random plant and sell the stuff than work years to stabilize or select a genetic....

Anyone can trow some pollen on some elite clone and call it whatever then instagram, cannabis fairs and bullshit like that do the rest....I don't want to pay top dollars for that....I did it and I really want to avoid it again

This polyhybrids are a mess....weak and full of hermies..
Sure, you can find some keeper but you will pay in time space and money....its like a lottery ticket....a very expensive one...

Plus im so bummed that every time you look for a genetic none of this seed rippers are able to give you a description of how the plant will grow, some tips on growing it or even a fuckin picture that is not photoshopped or a ridiculous closeup of the pistils that doesn't help nothing.....you are just buying names....

I did some seed run and the idea of doing it again if I loose my moms is enough to take the fun off growing hahahah:biggrin:

But going back to the topic what I plan to do is play with some old hybrids like skunk....afghan kush....white widow..regulars..and try to mix them togheter and see if I can get to the same flavors of this new polyhybrids.....
I made some seeds from a Sour D female with a Cake Crasher male and I can't wait to see what I will found....without paying a thousand dollars! :tiphat:

I'm seeing that keeping mom's is the way to go if you manage the room.
I have one Bubba hash plant from ACE that was fast and easy, high in THC...wasn't a great tasting smoke but made great edibles. I partake mostly for my health and she puts me to sleep, kills my pains, helps my digestive system and I'm in a great mood the next day.
I'm looking forward to having more mother plants in the future.

I won't buy purple strains because I don't like they way they taste and always found the buzz to be extremely weak.
