Do you find you smoke less as you get older?

So my dad was a really big pot-head in college, he quit when I was like five, and now he only smokes a couple of times a year. We were talking about it and I was telling him all the crazy shit that happens when I get stoned that doesn't happen to most people and he said he'd get the same stuff, but eventually you "grow out of" smoking that much.

Like when I smoke with him, he'll take three maybe four hits of mids and that's it. He said he doesn't like getting really messed up anymore, and he just takes a few hits and has a tiny buzz. He also said a lot of his older smoker friends are like that now too.

So I'm just wondering, is smoking large amounts something you really do grow out of? Or is that just him?

My dad is the same as yours. However my father in law smokes more than I do at this point.

I picked up his ashtray once with an insane amount of ash in it, probably up to a quarter ounce or more of just ash. I'm like damn you got a years worth of ash in here or what? He laughs and informs me that he emptied it earlier that week.

I think it depends why you smoke.

The older I get the more I smoke. Granted it has only been 11 years or so, but it has been a steady climb since the beginning. I did stop for a few months and man did that make it easier to get obliterated when I started again.
I know a few older people that smoke less than they used to (or at least say they used too). My mom does not smoke as much. She will keep up with ya, but she will just pass out later. She took a decade or so break from it though, kids and all.
Daisy's dad does not smoke as much. He only likes to take a few hits. Maybe split a pinner with daisy and I. He is a nut when he is stoned too, hilarious.

my mom used to smoke a lot when she was in college but now a few puffs well set her straight. sometimes i'll sneak some DANK shit into a bowl when we're smoking and one hit will knock her out. i just assumed she had a really low tolerance but she kinda smokes too much for that. i think its cause she's gettin old :p i cant wait for that. one hit to be ripped.. gotta save so much money

I was like your dad Horus, I quit when my kid was about 4, figured it was time to grow up. Also it is hard to justify spending money on herb when you have little kids to spend money on. Then you get too old, and where do you go to buy weed? At a concert or club, I look like a cop or a letch, nobody wants to offer you herbs. But when you do smoke it is like fresh stoner experiences of youth again, very cool. I am back Babay!

I got 30 years on the sweet end of a bong. I have cut waaaaay back. A couple of hits to sleep on and a bit more on weekends. My wife who is 45 smokes as much as she did at 18 if not more.

Rock on Haps! I enjoy hanging out with my older friends that still smoke. Some more, some less, a few not at all, but a certain group all stick together. It's guys (and ladies) like these that really keep the culture alive.

Yeah he mostly quit because he didn't want to put us at risk. More and more of his dealer friends got busted, and he figured it wasn't worth getting arrested over when he had a family and all.

It's crazy how many people smoke that you wouldn't expect to. This really old black guy he knew was at the hospital picking up his wife, and he had 50 pounds of headies in his car. Someone smelled it walking by, called the cops, and he'll probably be in prison until he dies. Scary shit :badday: You definitely wouldn't think this guy smoked, let alone sold in that amount of weight, and then BOOM one tiny slip-up and he's gone.

I guess it depends on what type of relationship you have with Cannabis in the first place.
I'm a scholar and an academic. I was never a wild pot smoker in school or at the University. I smoked, but I was mostly busy taking my degrees.
In that sense, pot has never impaired me or hindered me to achieve something in my life. If I come across a kid who flunks out of school because of too much pot smoking or tries to escape a sordid reality by being constantly high, I'd advice him/her to cut down and get a grip on him/herself, because we're no longer talking pot use but abuse.

You can live a perfectly normal and successful life and smoke Cannabis, it's just a question of how you use it, and how you relate to it.

So, no growing up needed if Cannabis didn't cause any problems in the first place.

That said, back to the original question. Your body's metabolism changes as you age. One cannot say exactly how aging will affect each individual, but basic needs such as sleep and eating, and of course physical and mental stamina are affected as you body functions slowly wither.

I've come across many people that cut down or stop smoking alltogether as they reach a certain age. It could be because of changed perspectives on life, but also because of not getting as much pleasure out of toking as before.

It seems that your physical needs diminish as you reach a critical age, and your tolerance levels drop.

You get your highs from watering the Chrysanthemums and petting the cat.

I don't smoke as much as I did when I was in my late teens and early twenties, not even close. I use to go through an ounce a week, now maybe a quarter z a month. Much of the ounce I would smoke each week was shared by rolling big spliffs at parties and such, nowadays I smoke primarily by myself, so that is one difference.

I think one reason you find people slowing down on their ganja intake is because as you get older, there are less and less of your fellow humans who continue to smoke, for a wide variety of reasons. For me at least, it isn't as comfortable walking around in society when most people are operating with minds that aren't abuzzin. I am always wondering if I am going to bump into someone who I really don't want to talk with while I am adjusted. Back in the day (where many of you "kids" happen to be right now), all the people I hung out with had their outlook adjusted by the bud, and that is much more comfortable to experience.

Nevertheless....I still choose to smoke before going out into society, it just makes it a more adrenalin inducing experience....maybe that is one reason I like to do that, always seems like a bit of danger could be right around the corner of the supermarket isle.

I think pot is one of the very few substances that your body actually needs LESS OF, over time, to feel the same effects. I've been a daily smoker for ten years now, and my current usage is about 0.3 grams a day. Five years ago, it was 1 gram a day. Eight years ago it was almost 2 a day. I usually take only one hit at a time, and I'll wait a few hours before taking another. Almost homeopathic, but not quite.

Metering my dosage to single hits also helps me objectively evaluate what I'm smoking. I always intake the same amount, so one puff will tell me all I need to know about the quality.

Cheers!

P.S. This doesn't mean that I don't or can't sesh it out....just ask the Babbas :joint:

i've known plenty of people in their 60's that smoke a pretty decent amount, a few joints by themselves spread over 4-5 hours after they get home from work until they go to bed, but i do agree alot of older smokers are a bit more mature about it, they aren't trying to get crazy ****ed up, just nice and relaxed, and also alot of them are at least partly medical users, even if they are not in medical states and that isn't their primary reason for smoking.
