Do strains improve

Hi Guys
Just wondering. Enthusiasts talk about breeding on the original parents from the nineties and stuff. Sensiseed claim that they use their original parents to still produce seeds.
Doesn't that mean that they have stopped the selective breeding, and will never improve the strain (unless creating a new strain)
How come they don't keep on making their parent plants even stronger and better?
If u had both parents of a true breeding, wouldn't you be able to select better and better plants for every grow making new parents even stronger and better?

I recently bought original f1 Jack Herers, which off course is a multible hybrid. Would it be almost impossible for me to inbreed these 11 plants to something better than the original f1 mother i'll find? Would it be worth a try, or should i just sit back and smoke the fine mother i'll find?

I'm also wondering if i could get that special Jack Herer Haze pheno if inbreeding in case it doesn't show among the 11 i got now?

well jack herer f2's would result in a huge variety of plants.. since you can recombine those genes in so many more ways than the f1 jacks.

look into bros. grimm work they used supposed jack herer f2's to create some famous strains like c99... interesting breeding work for sure.

Well
blank x blank of great proven genetics gives great hybrid growth you just have to find the best mother of the uniform batch (sensi's aproach),

or a IBL a strain that has been inbread for good traits such as thc, taiste, smell etc but these strains may have lost there hybrid vigour when doing this.

the reason they dont try to continue to improve the genetics is because if you do u eventually end up with a new strain. the new strains they come out with are probably the product of old strains that they have cross bred or continued to improve. by breeding and stabalizing and then producing seeds you get a uniform plant (relativly) that way they can offer something to th epublic thats not a crap shoot. genetics are tricky you may have to great parents that produce crap progeny (the apple fell far from the tree).

im going to take the opposite approach and say that im glad whoever keeps the same stock. a strain gets popular for what it is, and if you change the parents all the time, its not the same anymore. you cant easily make a strain better every time you breed either.

if people arent likin it that much, then change it up.

My thought was just, that if you could choose between a strain that was VERY good in the eighties and a strain that won a lot of cups today, wouldn't u expect the newer strain to be stronger and better? You would think that the extra years of breeding would lead to better bud?

depends on your taste -
with many different phenos you have a better chance of finding the right one for you
which might not be the right one for others

Def not those " newer " breeds coming from NL , as the most NL breeder´s selected for fuzzy/hairy (red) looking plants instead of big bracted and resin encrusted plants -

So for an eample a plant like Ed Rosenthals Super Bud would not be more potent than White Widow necessarily? My logic sence just tells me, that they would improve as the years pass by, but i can also se, that a plant like Jack Herer is still the more expensive one even though it's severel years old.

just because you bred two great strains does not mean that their progeny will be great. genetics are random and plants carry traits that they dont express so you may have some weed that smeels like a bolw of charies but its genetics carry a gene that make the smell of donkey shit. you may then bred that plant and its progeny will smoke like a giant donkey log. now if you bred to great straint you most likly will get a great new plant but you have to find it and thats the problem because you have 1000s of seeds lol and all of this is just if your breeding randomly, think about how difficult it si if your triny to breed for specific traits. then you have to deal with males. you cant tell how good they are really unless you do a progeny test. that means making seeds with its genetics growing them out and testing them. it takes time, space, and luck. now dont let this discourage you cause it can be done. but simply breeding two great strains will not necessarily produce a new superior plant.
