Do i purchase online or at a hydro shop????

Ok guys and gals so were finally taking it up a step. Where does everyone purchase their lights? I know there is hydro shops around , and people buy lights for legal reasons... but still i think it would feel weirld and all... so where does everyone buy their lightss and such?

I have come across many "legit grows" in my journeys. Many people using indoor grows to grow shrubs or exotic flowers to put in their gardens during the proper seasons. I say Hydro shops, I have gone many times, have even gotten advice from teh dudes that work there, and never any issues, no one has ever followed me home, or that I can tell watched me in there. Unless you are backing up the SUV to the door, no one will even notice

I went to a hydro shop for my whole setup. The guy just let me drive around to the back door in the alley to load up. I loaded my car to the nuts, nobody even looked twice.

I like ordering online myself, but I do love walking through a well stocked store. I can stay in there looking at everything for hours. I like online, I place my order and have it sent to a mailbox etc place. No worries, and no chance of anyone following me.

Yea i was thinking about getting all my nutes and mylar and what not from the store. i have a really good hydroshop around me but for the light idk what to do..

i want to get light at store but idk :-/


where does everyone who orders online get their lights?

however you purchase, i wouldn't use your credit card. if you order on line, use a money order. if you go to a store, use cash. i'm paranoid about going into the local hydro shops so i mostly send a friend.

the stores personnel are very helpful. they typically know what's up. i look pretty straight and i'm old but whenever i walk in, i smile looking at the pairs and trios of young males huddling over some ferts and talking low. lol

one thing about on line. the hipper shops don't have their boxes with the words HYDROPONICS on them. the asshole shops shout it to the world. i would prefer my UPS man not see that i'm getting hydroponics equip. know what i mean?

Ive found better deals online (even on craigslist) than I can get at stores. If you live somewhere where stuff is inexpensive though I'd say a store is easier since you don't have to worry about shipping charges. I live in a big city and it gets pretty costly though :chin:

I've used hydro to grow herbs before and never felt paranoid buying it... of course, it was for legit purposes. It's all mindset really, you run no risk.

Lolol @ Fatboy! I had a similar situation happen to me. I ordered the waterfarm 8 kit online, back when I first started hydro. When the UPS man came, he left the box labeled "General Hydroponics", inside the landing of my apartment. My neighbor, heard all the clamor, and was just closing her door, when I hit the landing. I know she seen the box. I was like...."Holy Crap!" I was super paranoid for a few months. Especially, when that damn dual diaphram air pump, started humming like a DC10.

Anyways, my first light was a 1000W with a magnetic ballast. Boy, if only I would have asked for advice first. The hood, wasn't air cooled or nothin'. I dropped almost 500 on that piece of crap. I still have it too. I can't get rid of it, because I'm too paranoid. Maybe some day, when I buy my own house, I can put it to good use.

My point, to the thread starter is this....if yer gunna order online, call and ask their shipping methods, and if there are any markings on the container., etc. I would suggest to you, that if you have a good hydro store at your access, then by all means, utilize them. They can be an invaluable well of information too. But I would suggest you ask the more specific, grow related questions here.

Also, consider your grow space, and method of propagation. If you are gunna grow in a closet, obviously, a 1000 watter would be way overkill. I'm gunna offer you some advice, that I wish I had, before my first equipment purchase. Go with a digital ballast, and a 600 watt air cooled hood. And I don't even know anything about your area. The 600 digi, is almost comparable in lumen's, to the 1000, with almost half the energy consumption.

The big home box stores, can be a valuable source of equipment for DIY'selfers. I have used them, to set up several stealth boxes recently. But I still use standard grow lights, that I get from the hydro store.

my 2 cents hydro shop a borrowed car from some one who has no idea you grow and if the car is newer remove the plate man I must be paranoid ha ha.

OH i defintly have an amazing grow shop around me. i am also in a big city. i like the borrowed car idea and i would love to get it there but im just so scared going into there and like people asking so what you growing lolol..

and i am in my 20's and i dont look like some redneck farmer so i just would feel a lil weird lol.. but then again im proly paranoid as a mofo

Man porshe if you looked like me you would never wanna step in a hydro shop I look good and clean but one look at me in a hydro shop you would know what i'm up to.

Brother monk,,,, also i was shooting for the 1000 watter cuz my closet i have is about 12 x8 maybe a lil bigger even. and i was thinking maybe cut that in half with some blue tarps and mylar.

i am defintly going for the more fire bud and the most weight.. This 1st crop will be for some profit but mainly for a personal smoke that will last me for MONTHS and i just want my profit to pay for my light and such and maybe be able to buy another light to increase my yield for next time.... but thats also me dreamingggg ;-p

htgsupply is legit. ive never had a problem with an order. just make sure u got you cooling and odor control (if u need it) planned out if you go for the 1K watt.
