Do Expensive Cleaners Beat DIY Methods?

How do you keep your bong crystal clean? Do expensive cleaners really work better than DIY methods? Let's discuss!

Thanks for the post friend. Speaking of cannabis and cleaning methods I noticed yesterday that after handing my plants my fingers were very sticky. I peeled an orange and the orange neutralized the sticky. So using orange oil as a cleaner my be something to look at.

A cheap and useful cleaner for really shitty glass bongs is denatured ethanol + sea salt with coarse grain size

- cover the holes of the bong with rubber bungs or what ever you find useful

- pour some denatured ethanol in and few tablespoons of coarse sea salt and then just shake, shake, shake

You may have to use a bottle brush too

When you got all the tar and shit out of there, then do another wash with dishwashing soap

I wonder whether Orange Power will work, it's great at removing the residue from stickers, I will try it and report back, I have a particularly dirty bong to deal with.

Isopropanol is cheap, and as a cannabis solvent, works almost too well. People choose Ethanol or butane, because they are less effective.

I'm constantly impressed with how my pipe tar turns to dry dust. The oil leaves into the iso, and the carbon deposit left is porous. I can't imagine anything could be better, and friends that have tried other things, have seen nothing as good.

Though the carbon does just brush away, a second wash with a mild acid might help if a poorly designed item had areas out of reach. Vinegar/citric perhaps. pH adjusting acid, if it's glass or you check for resistance. I have not needed anything more than a brush though. I doubt some porous carbon can cling to anything very well.

i also like isopropyl alcohol

if you can find 99%, awesome, but most i can find in stores is 91%.

it is indeed very aggressive, just look at qwiso vs qwet... the best qwiso hash using frozen everything, it takes like 20 seconds of shaking...

qwet (using ethyl alcohol aka drinking alcohol, ie 190 proof grain spirits, etc.) takes like 3 minutes!

and it's cheaper than ethanol, and i'm happier about using a common alcohol than some sketchy nonpolar petroleum derived solvent or something, so iso ftw! (for cleaning. i still prefer qwet vs qwiso)

Rubbing alcohol and salt for the resin

The other problem with a bong is eventually you get mineral deposits from the water like with a pot you boil water in, especially if you have percs. Hot vinegar is what I use for it

That (denatured) ethanol+ salt shake/scrub trick is really a good one

glad i read it somewhere years a go, probably at icmag

It works so well for larger glass bongs with round chambers, for places where you can’t get a brush

I should clean my bong more often... when it's still easy ..ha ha and coarse sea salt shake is the best trick against alll the tar

This is what most of my friends do. Works good with that course salt.
