DIY Vertical Cooler System

Guest

Hello everyone and thanks for all the kind words. I've got some 3.5" net pots on the way and they should be here before the weekend. I'll load one of the units and show you what they look like with them.

ethereal, I have to disagree with you, but i won't know for sure. Till i load a unit with clones. I don't think there is enough splash in there to get to the roots when they are young, but i could be wrong. I'll test a unit like you stated and see.

Ok, here's the update

Ok, your going to need to cut some of the 3" pipe to 3" lengths for the spacer's between the Wye's. You are going to want to figure out how many grow sites your going to want per a verticle tube. Here i'm going with 3 sites per a tube. You will need 3 wye's, one end cap, four pipe spacer's per a verticle pipe.

Here's one tube completed

Here's the second oen completed

Ok, here is the grow sites all feed with hoses ready to go.

Here is the unit flowing

Here's inside one of the wye's or grow sites. You can see the water flow here. Everything is looking good and there are no leaks what so ever. This unit is just rocking. No leaks and the flow is better then the larger unit.

Before anyone say's anything. Yes, the lid is alittle to weak and the tubes are leaning over some. This is going to have to be corrected. I think the normal bucket lid is going to be changed to something else. This weekend, i'm going to make a lid out of plywood so the tubes stay nice and straight. I'm also going to make a nice table for the cooler unit. There will be some cool stuff this weekend. Going to make some changes to fix a couple of thing. Anyone got any questions. Fire away and thanks

My only concern would be when fully loaded could it become top heavy towards the end of flower. The water in the bucket should be plenty weight wise but you gotta figure that some of the waters weight may be above the center of gravity and contribute to a topple.

Well, i thought i would give everyone alittle head's up. I'll be building a couple of table units this weekend, so hang around and those wanting a unit with a Rez tank instead of a cooler unit. This will be what your looking for. I'll have one for the larger unit and a small cover for the bucket unit. I'll also show and go over the net pots. Should be pretty fun this weekend. Thanks again everyone and I hope everyone enjoys the thread.
Take care,
BG

Hey Draw, is there a reason why i should place a net pot upside down inside the base of the verticle tube and why a zip tie? I'm thinking the net pot is to keep stuff out of the rez tank, but is the tie to hold it in place or something? Thanks for the info and help.

the netpot allows to the ability to place rocks or other media in the tubes,, preventing the media to spill into the rez. yea the zip ties are to hold it in place... its not my idea,, its the way the cage and cube are designed...

btw there are drain holes on opposite sides of each tube
2 drainholes.......

WOW, very cool idea. I like it and wil give it a go. I've got pots coming in any day now and i'll see how they work out. I'm think i'm just going to drop them in through the top like normal, but i'll make sure to post your idea as well. Pretty cool idea for sure. That's what happens when you grow and smoke Thai buds.lolol
Thanks,
BG

Wasapppp my bruddah GDW.
Like your little DIY thread.
What do you plan on using to fill the tubes with?
I have used those multiheads and love them. They all eventually leak though. )inmy experience) Maybe if you screwed them straight to a pvc manifold that was screwed directly to the pump ( setup like in an aerocloner and the mister's, misters being the multiheads) and just ran one tiny drip line up each tube, split off by t's at each site/tube it would get rid of any leak prob's and really keep all the messy stuff in the rez.
Just a thought.
Stay UP bro.

Thanks everyone, getting ready to do some updating. Picked up some materials today and getting ready to build the tables for those that don't want to use a cooler or the bucket lid. Should be updating early this afternoon.
Thanks,
BG

Afternoon all, here's the 5 gallon table for those wanting to go this route. The table measure 24" x 18". I used 1/2" normal plywood and normal 2" x 4"'s to construct this little unit.

Aright, here's the coupler installed. You got the 3" verticle coupler's and the single 1/2" threaded coupler installed. You want to make sure to center over the bucket. You want to make sure that everything drain's into the bucket and not on the floor. You do have a 2x4 running in the center and you will place holes on both sides. The 1/2" coupler for the feeder head is set off to the side. You can't center it because of the 2x4", but that's not a problem. I'm getting ready to get everything together and post some pictures. Stay tune. Oh, and by the way. I used all screw's and they were 3" and 1.25" in length.
Take care,
BG
