DIY hand watering pump

Gizmo

Member
Hello guys !

I was looking for a manual pump for pumping water from a river or a lake and found some interesting links i would like to share with you. however i don't know if we can connect this pump to a long pipe to pump water far from the source and if someone could help me on that question it will be very welcome.

My goal is to dig a hole of 70 gallons, put tarpaulin water resistant in it, a camo cover and it will make a reservoir to make nutrients solution and water the plants.

Enjoy !

they make a drill pump that uses garden hose attachments. might work out easier. 10.99 from lowes/home depot/menards

i found it but i feel the flow rate of a drill pump must be lower than the manual pump

Thank you for the tip DemonTrick i did not know this device

Nice pump ....Beautiful Mat!

you wouldn't be testing that on my carpet

...lol

ps consider an air mattress for storing water,

double or king is good( maybe 3-4 daisy-chained)

rent a gas pump to fill at location

and top up daily manually or with drill pump

thank you for the advice on the air mattress amanda88 but i prefer to dig a hole it will be easier to mix the nutrients and adjust pH of the solution, gas pump is too heavy and expenssive for me and maybe too noisy. i found a nice drill pump i can connect garden hose directly on it however i need a cordless drill and i hope it can do the job correctly because all videos i saw about drill pump are with corded drill which ones have more power than cordless drill. im not decided yet between the drill pump or the construction of a manual pump.

probably depends a lot how far you are trying to pump the water.
Never tried one but I would test it at home and have a lot of batteries on hand for the bush.

Cheers GG

hello GG, the water source will be approx 60-70 feet far from me on a flat distance and the water is 7 feet below my level after that, do you think its doable with a cordless drill with 2 batteries ? i need to run some test thats for sure.
any other opinions are welcome guys :)

if possible, figure out a way and location to put your water-storage hole at just a slightly higher elevation than your garden...

Then use a hose to siphon water to your girls with no pump at all...

Cool gizmo! Going to save my Fed up back some pain. I would imagine as with anything it will have a sweet spot for rpm to resistance for max gallons per battery id fill a couple 55 gals to test that out how that works.

it will very cool but its not possible its a very flat area except where the water source is.

You're welcome, DemonTrich gave a very good advice, i did not know this little device, the drill pump looks like a nice tool for guerilla growing, i always wonder how a grower could move dozen of gallons of water. i will make a test in the next months with a cordless drill and two batteries. i need to dig this hole first, goddamn it ! where is my shovel ?

This man knows what he's talking about.
You mention your water source is below your garden spot. You can also siphon water uphill.
maybe use the drill pump to start the water flow. But if you have your hose in your water source and then have it somewhere between the water source and your storage be above the height of your storage.( up a tree) then down to storage. Once you get it moving it will keep flowing.
I hope that makes sense.

Peace GG

im not sure i understand well, sorry my understanding of english is sometimes not so good.
I can't use gravity to water my plants from reservoir to plants because the area is flat but yes the water source is 7 feet below me and the reservoir 60-70 feet from the water source. watering my plants from the reservoir is not a problem i can do it by hand easily or use the drill pump if i have still enough batteries but my real concern is to fill my 70 gallons hole from the water source below me.

Hey Gizmo,
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. But my pitiful drawing may only be worth a few hundred words, but I hope you understand now.
You can use the drill pump to get the water flowing. Once it gets past the high point marked with a X the water will continue to flow to fill your storage container or hole in the ground.
It helps if distance A is greater than distance B if you are doing a steeper elevation gain.
I forgot to say that the storage container or hole has to be lower than the original water source.
So the water can go up but has to go to a lower point on discharge end.
It's not fast but will save batteries.

I redid the pic to try and clarify.

thank you so much gorilla ganja for taking the time to make a drawing, its very nice, now i understand what you were saying to me previously and excuse me again, but how is it possible that the water keep flowing to my reservoir if i stop the drill pump ? and where must i put the drill pump ? its full of trees where iam so its doable

Wont the hose have to be longer on one side or the other to create enough pressure to keep the flow uphill?
