When you use only tap water it is also important to take care of pH and ppm as using nutrients?

from what i understand, an ideal ph is only necessary for nutirent uptake.
clones do not need nutrients. they just need moisture.

i was instructed by some dumb ass hydro shop owner to put a little bit of nutes in my cloner. i knew it wasnt going to be good, but decided to do it anyways just to see if he was right. so i tried it and it blows. like 004 said, it makes the stems mushy and kills the cuttings.

so now i just use straight tap water out the faucet. no ph. no nutes.

^ i dont know why that guy glued those neoprene plugs into that top. you have to be able to pull them out in order to keep the roots in tact.

i would think its to help with water control & to hold in place ? as u can see clearly it is not glued 100% it is only on the back sides of the neoprene not where the slit is im sure he can pull hiz rooted cuts out just fine

two questions:

1. Most of you use 1/2" pvc pipes. Isn't it right that if you use thinner pipes the pressure would exceed and the misters spray finer? So why not using thinner pipes?

2. How do you get air in the res? I think if all sites are used with cuttings the res will be quite airtight. The original ez cloner has an airpump. So is the airpump necessary?

yeah that makes sense... he probably sheered off too big of a hole and the pl plugs wouldnt stay in place so he ghetto rigged it with some Supa Glue.

im going to be making two 100 site cloners here in the next day or so... ill be sure to add them...

they are going to be the new norm for the icmag HOOD.

do u guys think it possible for me to grow clones using ebb and flo tray with a dome by placing the cuttings in hydroton pellets and flooding every 15 min?

That dude didnt glue them in, he used the glue to make a "seat" so the plugs didnt fall in.

P.S. Im not sure why everyone uses 2" holes, as Ive found 1" to be way more than sufficient. My bubble cloner has pencil sized holes, so to me even 1" is big.

Its way more efficient that way. I just put 80+ sites on a 18 gallon roughneck. Be like Eddy Lepp, triple up each site, and you got mad clonage.

Anyone who says they screwed a red EZ Clone Mister 360 in without use of metallic tapping aids has not made a cloner. This plastic can't thread PVC, I don't care what size hole you drill. Need further threading.

brah, you can check out my garden for proof that it works.

i drilled with a drill bit and never glued pvc together...

im just that damn good ... peace

I made my first one without a tap. Just worked the hole with a dremel bit, widening it bit by bit, and screwed them in with my hands. Hurt like hell, had to force all my weight on it while screwing it in. But it did work. On some of the holes, I took a big screw, and used that as a ghetto threader, but not on all of them.

Yes, a tap makes it 1000x easier, and for 4 bucks, why not? But to call people liars over PVC? Chill...

wow man if having to solve the problem of how to fit a mister into a hole is like killing yourself maybe u should just go buy a ready maid cloner for like 3 or 4 hundred dollars. have u ever used a drill before???? and what do there icons have to do with anything ??? like i said go buy a cloner!!!!!!! the "diy" cloner thread should only be attempted if u have "basic" problem solving skills.keep up the good work guys!!! bye the way 100% success rate and i didnt need to tap the holes with red ezclone misters

Great thread. I used this info to build my own.
I used a 21gal rubbermaid, with an ecoplus 396gph pump, and 16 misters in the double box configuration. i bought the Ez Cloner neoprene plugs and used a 1 5/8 inch hole driller to make the holes. A 1 3/4 inch bit would have been much better but it wasnt in stock.

As for leaks... well at first it was bad. So i bought some rubber weatherstripping. No improvement at all. Then i had the idea to stop the water before it gets to the crack.

I made a skirt out of a 6" wide strip of poly, attaching it to the lid permanently with a hot glue gun. It works perfectly so far. My only concern is that is it adds more surfaces that need to be kept clean, but it is strong enough that i can probably put it in the dish washer.
