DIY: 2 Super Simple KISS Systems

Using a mix of screw bulb LEDs; CW ~ 6500 + WW ~ 3000 + NW ~ 5000. I do not have equipment to test, so just place a white envelope under them to determine approximate values.

thanks man....

what i guess i was really trying to understand is the wavelength (nanometer) values...

in doing a little research i discovered wien's law which is basically:

wavelength (nm) = 2,897,768/Kelvin rating

therefore your bulbs are supplying these wavelengths...

2,897,768/6500 = 446nm
2,897,768/5000 = 580nm
2,897,768/3000 = 965nm

the 3000K is supplying your reds, but 965nm seems to be off the visible scale of the lighting spectrum...

is the 965 nm just a peak and therefore also supplying some infrareds? :dunno:

what am i missing here?

~ 3K means spectrum-wise is more like a HPS bulb ~560- 620

V, thanks. Actually it is merely OK, by comparison. My ~ 80 watt LED tent, with supplemental light bar positioned where the ufo stops is WAY fuller (~ 4xs)!

I will definitely upgrade to adding some low watt bulbs down low

sweet...that last picture (bottom right) shows some very very healthy undergrowth there!!

The more I see, the more of a die-hard firm believer I become in LEDs. Doesn't matter which school of thought anyone follows...watt for watt....LEDs just kick HID butt especially in quality!!

Excellent work man..

I would amend your led enthusiasm to: color complimentary 1 watt leds, in small multi-panels (~20-25w) scattered around the plant on different angles and heights- because they provide more coverage without blinding the plant's photo receptors.

To see the near future go to www.astirgrow.com

Hello my friend.......although I still check in on that every once in a while one, I will never swing over to the thought that somehow 1W LEDs are more beneficial than 3W. That is where our though processes on this subject diverge.

I agree with the fact that smaller panels are better than one large one. My ventures will be into the 3W and up field.

The sun beats down from one point in the sky. The sunnier the day, the more the plants like it.......I'll change that a bit and maybe place two-three nice bright suns in my tents and take it from there...:D

Good Luck

As you wish, just know that the higher the wattage the farther the leds need to be from the plant.

Using the Inverse Square Law, 3w needs to be 3Xs farther away or risk overpowering the plants ability to process.

OK, I finally hooked up one 3 bulb vanity in my HOT5 tent.

Out of LEDs so using 2 @ 13w cfl + 1 @ 24w cfl (all 3500K)

Could use another vanity for the Sat dom, which I have, but no more bulbs.

So, to be continued

That is the beauty of this whole thing.......there is no magic bullet which will grow 5gr/w or whatever the retailers are advertising these days and we are all doing testing which is more or less moving in the same general direction.

At the end(if there is and end) of this long road we're on, the path will converge at a happy medium.......:)

I know I've been a stubborn hard headed prick and said things which have offended and for that I apologize. It was never my intent. I'm sure you have the same passion for this as the rest of us do and sometimes with passion comes the fierce need for a defensive stand even though it is not needed......

I just hope that no lasting ill will shall be harboured in the long run

well thanks for the info, but still how does apply to wiens law?

i'm no scientist and am a bit confused, but it seems that this law says the 3000K is also supplying a lot IR with the spectrum in the 900 range... is that true?

again, maybe the peaks are in the 900 range, while also supplying reds in the range that promotes chlorophyll... i am just guessing here and trying to understand...

thanks again... :tiphat:

Well I'm no scientist either, so perhaps you should ask someone who understands Wien's law. Clearly the graph does not show a peak, or spike in the 900 range, and even if there is one, it's impact seems minimal

Lower Branches HOT5 & LED

Lower Branches HOT5 & LED

After Vs compliment on my HOT5 lower branches, I compared them to those in my LED tent, which is ~ 4xs fuller. So WTF am I waiting for you ask. Yeah, me too :watchplant::wallbash:

Yesterday, I installed a 3 bulb vanity fixture to add supplemental light for the lower branches. Down to 13w and 24w ~ 3K cfls, so that's what I added

Will be watching and reporting

V, I, too, used to believe that bigger watt leds must be better than 1 w. Then I came across this you tube video, as well as several 1w threads with excellent results.

Since I already owned a ufo 90 with 1 watt diodes, I simply supplemented the missing spectrums and now get comparable results to my 432w HOT5

Although the 60* lens appears brighter, wider lenses provide wider coverage. A51 is coming out with 73* lenses

hmmmm...isn't that sponsored by hydrogrowled?? Isn't that cammie the scammie's company??

Need I say more??

That aside my friend...It' all goes back to the same old thing...if someone believes in something...there is no force on the face of the planet which can convince them otherwise. Hence,,we shall agree to disagree........if you want for I most certainly do......and remain on the same side of the fence which is that no matter whether you go 1W, 3W...50W.......LEDs are the way to go...

Always wishing you nothing but the best and always want the growing Gods to smile upon you .......and everyone else my friend......:huggg:

thanks for the reply...

i'm just confused and trying to understand. i find it interesting that WW, CW and NW leds should provide all needed spectrums and then some.

keep up the good work man :tiphat:

V: Yeah, Cammie, like all led mfgs, has an agenda, and who knows how the comparison was manipulated, if at all.

GP: Most of what we have learned regarding leds was due to the fact that white leds were not the focus of early development. So much has changed in just 2 years, and especially within the last 6 months. LEDs future is very bright

Pics

LED (~ 80w). UFO is on the side, thanks to light mounting brackets bad design. Brackets broke, ufo crashed into plant. Fortunately, it fell on an angle and only affected the lower branches. I tied them up, and they have healed.

PPMS were ~ 600, reducing today to ~ 500. Now on day 36 from first bud clusters. Roughly 3 weeks to go

HOT5 216 T5s + ~ 46 cfl, but only on the HPA side (left). Plant on right is my DIY 21st Century F & D. Although it is farthest away from cfls, the lower buds have fattened up nicely. Perhaps the low lighting is supplying more energy allowing nutes to flow better to the upper parts

Enlarge the left pic and notice the primary leafs on plant to the right are droopy. This is due to repositioning the mist heads to better feed the clone roots. You can see one in the right corner, once enlarged

NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Damn, you're lucky bro.. That could've been very bad. Glad to see you managed to save and repair the damage. I've found that, believe it or not, honey on a break will mend it better than new!!

I've broken branches and just tied them back up, put some honey on them and in a few days, it's rock solid!

The rest of the girls looking nice and healthy as well.. You're saying about the droop...I'm sure that will all resolve itself.

Good Luck

hey PF looks great!

i read somewhere that the 5v LEDs have the same output as the 3v because the 'extra' 2v is just wasted as heat? IDK but have been looking @ ~3v diodes over any of the other choices

the star PCB ones i messed w/ {cree mx6} are 20v and don't seem to be as bright as the 3v through hole LEDs
