i think nasa was interested in this because the ballast only is only 4 pounds and probebally because its a changeable
from mh/hps/mercury vapor and ps(whatever that is)and also its programable wattage and voltage.
also i think it would be cool if they made a
bulb that is programable.

i've been hearing quite a bit mentioned about electronic ballasts before but i've never been able to find pricing on any of the models i've come across.
this model here looks to be the best so far. alot of features i havent seen on other models.
now the big question...

i wonder how much they will cost??????

Hi,

Thanks for your interest in the Vari-Ballast™. We’ll soon be sending out our VB400 and Lighting Control software for beta-testing by dealers. Full production and sales should be ramped up in a few months. Check back regularly at our website, www.vb1000.com, for up-to-date purchasing information.

We have been targeting $625 U.S. as a suggested retail from of the Vari-Ballast™ 400 Lighting Control System. The EB400, an electronic ballast without the extra features, should retail for about $300.

Regards,

Sunlight supply eballast

Sunlight supply eballast

Hi, I've been lurking for awhile, this is my 250mh eballast got it in Seattle a few years ago, its an old one and it doesn't turn on very reliably with the built in timer, last year this time it was sent back to the manufacturer and had a new timer installed but its still pretty hokey, basically it just gets turned on and never turned off when its in use, but its 10x lighter and cooler and smaller (with out the generic aluminum case) that a traditional ballast, the Icecap ballasts are really the way to go they run about $200, thats what sunlight supply uses in thier blue wave (or something) line of eballasts which would be superior to magnetics for growing bud in confined spaces! Not the greatest pics but there really isn't alot to see I'm thinking that if this ballast was taken out of this aluminum enclosure it would rock as a cabinet or closet ballast because of the size, weight and lack of heat! And its silent but the light bulb it self has a high frequency pitch which is wierd but not a problem.

edit: those ones from gorrilla supply used to be 240v only, if they have 120v that 1000w is mine lol!

hmm, i may have to try them out myself. the convenience of being able to go from hps to mh just by switching the bulb is really attractive to me. along with power savings, heat, and weight issues. weight is a big isue because of my back problems. i just hope that they are dependable. maybe i'll just get one and see how it holds up.

i was thinking about the 600 watter. if i do get it and it quits i'll just swap my 400mh in. but if you run 2 rooms on 1 ballast the extra cost wouldn't be all that much i'm just worried about relibility. i wonder if those efficency figures include the higher light output or if thats just the ballast. any ways 1000 watt yield out of a 600 is promising.
