You can put a pc fan to push some cold air to ballast. help to cool down. it work for me.
yes, actually ironCELL recommends the same so i will now see if/how this can be done, thanks!

I can't view the poll as I use Tapatalk to view forums.

What strains do you want us to vote on?

here are my options:

hello there,

i performed above mention upgrade to the ballast box.
a small pc fan sucking air out with 2 passive inlets of the same diameter. Temps inside the ballast box dropped significantly and it looks much better now :)

besides, i have thrown the beans into water today, looking forward to seeing some healthy germination.

peace :joint:

So, what did ya end up germing? Curious to see this little box in action.

Thanks :)

The winner of the poll is ChemDogDD x SD ibl and it popped through already, waiting for the sprouts above soil level.

Besides i also germinated a few other seeds whose purpose is to go outdoors. Their non-commercial name is Hot Mix, which may sound familiar to some growers here

Looking GREAT so far. That little space is going to be a great flower spot for some little girls. Its gonna make some NUGGETS!

How are the beans doing?:)

well, doing quite well!
the ChemDogDD x SD ibl beans are still below soil surface but... the other seeds sprouted at 100% rate (i selected only 3 of them as the cab is micro)

this strain's name is Hot Mix and its creator is not sure what turns out, lol.
let's consider this a box of chocolates - you never know what you 're gonna get! (however the phenos seem similar as for now - still quite early to judge though)

waiting for the next batch to show their heads above soil level, fingers crossed!

ok folks,

since this shifts from construction project into a grow project i decided to move the following story into the new rabbit burrow thread in the Micro Grows section.

should anybody have any Qs or remarks in regard to the cab itself, please feel free post it here, i will still drop in from to time :)

again, big thanks to all who helped me dig the burrow  peace!

IF I had voted, that was my choice. Didn't want to vote on it 'cause ya said ya wanted a good 'beginner" strain and I wasn't familiar with the other choices.

Keep a fairly close eye on 'em. I'm running some strawberry cough x SD ibl (circa 2007?) and had a couple "full blown" hermies out of 1 pack.

Good luck.

alright fellows, now came time for some real action ;)

as i mentioned earlier, the above micro cab is supposed to be veg/clone chamber.

in the meantime i designed a flower chamber of serious size and with serious lighting.
not that CFLs are bad... just trying to go one step further.
and since i have this second big cab and that security HPS lamp, why not use the two for the benefit of my girls?

here's what i'm dealing with:

this cabinet has following dimensions:

and this is my idea about the setup:

any comments folks?

hi, doji :tiphat:

thanks for your Q. scrubber is an extra equipment which may be added later. but in case of this cab it is not that necessary because of its location.

ok. let's get to work.

first things first: painted the interior with flat white paint. as mentioned before, i don't like the hassle with mylar.

next step is ventilation.
in case of HID lighting it is crucial to have good airflow. therefore the diameter of the inlets should be at least 2 times bigger than diameter of the outlet (so they say). to make sure it is more than enough i drilled 4 inlets.

on the other end i installed a never used bathroom fan i had. it is powerful yet noisy...too noisy. i will need to think about replacing it with some whisper unit.

next step is lighting. i have this old security lamp which i cannot use for growing (wrong type: MVL i.e. mercury-vapour). but i can still use its hood and this is exactly what i need.

i used ropes and simple hanging mechanisms to ensure a solution that allows for adjustable height of the hood.
i can move the hood with ease and virtually no effort! :dance013:

and the next step is power.
i had another old HPS home security lamp so deinstalled its ballast and hanged it in the left chamber of the cabinet. this way i made a remote ballast for the bulb (which hangs in the hood in the right chamber).

and this is left from the home security lamp:

now back to the flowering chamber.
the bulb itself is brand new, didn't want to risk as the security lamp was not that new.

good for me, everything works fine!

and the (almost) ready cabinet looks like this:

now i need to take care of two/three more things:

1. air mixing fan inside the flo chamber (need power source inside for this too)

2. replacement of the noisy exhaust fan

3. optionally: carbon scrubber
