"With its farmers advised to avoid using water from the San Juan River for weeks after a toxic spill of wastewater from an inactive mine contaminated it and the Animas River, federal officials arranged to send relief water to members of the Navajo Nation.
However, some members say that the water delivered to them was tainted.
Shiprock farm board member Joe Ben Jr. complained that water coming from tanks delivered by a contractor employed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency contained oil and didn’t smell right.

“I reached my hand into the tank and felt my hand getting oily,” tribal President Russell Begaye said, according to KOAT-TV. “There are these black beads in the water, and when you rub them, black streaks go down your hands.”
Begaye told KOB-TV that the EPA had said the tanks held “only clean water for drinking.”
“Clearly it is just a lie. Clearly, it is an oil tank. That’s what it is,” the tribal leader told the news station.
Begaye and Navajo Attorney General Ethel Branch went to Shiprock to look at the tanks a day after farmers voted to reject the water, posting videos on Facebook of their examination.
"That is clearly oil,” Branch said. “We don’t trust the EPA to be here. They need to get out of our nation, send the dollars directly here. Let us take care of these issues ourselves because we care about the health and welfare of our people.”
Another reason I don't trust government agencies. As jhhnn said, the EPA has been beneficial in Colorado. I beg to differ. Had water issues 2 yrs. ago...neither CO state Environmental Dept. nor EPA assisted for a positive outcome. Issue resolved with private contractor. Tsk.
And now, the poorest of peoples (Navajo Reservation) has been given water tanks tainted with oil. Thanks EPA....these people depend on a clean river for their survival.

i could have told them about that... i had a "stalking anniversary" a few days back and half a dozen "old friends i haven't seen years" sent me hookup invites or shit to listen to or read.. and all kinds of offered foodstuffs to defer.. people think i'm crazy to say it but i've done "oh i'll just accept then wake up drugged with a new ____ up my ____" so i don't give a fuck what people say, i'm telling people so they know. there are assholes in collusion in the world and they fuck people up, anyone can tell if you aren't fucking lying to your own ass about it. who are they it's fucking obvious.

Very poorly mismanaged incident, pointing fingers....and who suffers? Indigenous people with delivery of oil slick water tanks. Sigh.
True, numerous abandoned mines are toxic hazards everywhere...seepage from those holes/shafts eventually do enter the water table. I think the EPA frame of mind was earnest,(I still don't trust them from personal experience) but faltered not having a stop gap measure in case something went wrong.

Yeah I have to agree I don't think they did it intentionally either. I do however believe they have enough money to do it right, so there is virtually no risk. They probably contracted someone who put too many $500 hammers into their bid.

the scumbags in charge do all kinds of horrible shit and I don't trust them or believe anything they say...as an avid outdoorsman it pisses me off...I kayak ,hunt ,fish ,hike....shit is getting worse every year..WAIT till all the toxic shit hidden gets into the Colorado river in higher amounts...SOME PEOPLE DONT HAVE A FUCKING CLUE...enjoy the water cali cause its coming
