Devolution?

Is it just me or has the whole human race devolved?

We used to be a species who invited dialogue and debate. Now we get our feelings hurt if someone thinks differently.

Come on people, just smoke some herb and chill. It's just life.

imo while i basically agree i dont know if i'd say the ENTIRE human race has de-evolved.

either way, i think you're right... every one should burn one!

hahaha.....I just feel like i live in the Special Interest States of America sometimes.....so many agenda's and not alot of reasoning going on

True ASA, not "all" of us....agreed

it may have been on here but i read something very true.. it went something like somewhere along the line, survival of the fittest turned into protection of the weak. whoever said it.. put it well.

I'll take that theory, but I like to put a little twist into it. We never evolved in the first place. The misconception in the word evolve is that there's a better and a worse, and we change for the better. Unfortunately, the truth is there is no absolute scale or goal that we must reach, we simply adapt to the environment that befits us.

So in conclusion, we don't evolve or "devolve".

i don't know when the period your talking about really was, the thing is in the past only the "cream of the crop was even literate" so everything you read from the past is usually from the best and the brightest, now with the internet you read shit from the entire cross-section of the english speaking world. Just because the founding fathers were open minded and very intellectual, don't think that the majority of the population was any different that the intolerant rednecks we have today.

WHIP IT! WHIP IT GOOOD!

Get it? DEVOlution? Seriously though, I couldn't agree more. I remember when my parents used to tell me about how lucky I was to have new-fangled inventions like seat-belts and whatnot. Christ, I remember people smoking in movie theaters, malls, and airplanes. International, at that. Kids these days got soft, pink insides. I know, cuz I'm in class with kids 8 years younger than me.

It's for better and for worse I guess. Yeah, I guess now we will be mandated into healthiness. Leaves no room for Darwin to do his thing, though- and that is Muchos Problemas. See, the dummies would blow themselves up, crush their skulls on bikes, various other what-have-you's- and then they wouldn't be able to pass their defective seed on to the next gen.

Oh, let's not forget, stupid people ain't snaring smart ones unless they are really good looking, and even then- those ones are trying to snare rich guys. Rich don't necessarily mean smart. So gen 2.0 is like super-DS (not a Nintendo product. If you thought that, I mean you) and they will live to be a hundred, because it is illegal to do anything other than what they tell you to do.

They want you to live to be 100, and braindead through as much of it as possible. They fool you into slaving for the almighty dollar, and then proceed to take it right away from you. The longer you live, the longer you can do this, and the more likely you will be to have more children- who will continue perpetuating the process that benefits the few, at the expense of your many souls.

All of you rule-followers out there, have a nice trip. Mind you, I am not advocating grossly illegal (no-such thing, I know) acts, or anarchaic behavior, but fer chrissakes QUESTION SOME SHIT WOULDJA?! Break a few rules, because you have realized that they are unjust, and be smart enough not to get busted. Then any time you walk past any vestige of 'the man' you'll know he's effing you, but at least you can say you were pretending he was somebody else!

Phew. I gotta re-read this, but I think this might be a good one.

You gotta take a step back and look at this from the outside in. Our intellectual egos won't let us admit maybe being smart isn't the best thing. From day one, this has always separated us from the "animals." Our smarts would somehow prove our superiority. But in what?

If you're talking about survival, maybe there's a negative unintended consequence of being overdependant on tools, medicine, and brain-power. Besides obesity on the forefront to becoming the next real epidemic, and the folly of our nation talking about "women's rights" as defining moments of our humanity, perhaps (and I'm just speculating here) one day our brain-power would be the very thing that destroys us, as the dinosaurs' overindulgence may have destroyed them. Perhaps nature never intended any one species to have expanded and wrestled away Earth's resources as we have... and then, water, oil, clean air, and rainforests wouldn't be on short supply... neither would atomic bombs have been invented.

But you gotta look at this from the big picture. One day millenia into the future, when all humans have become extinct, what would the world remember us for? Our intelligence? Or our penchant for destruction?

the way i see it.. intelligence will be bred out of the human race eventually. if you look at the people having all the kids.. most of the people having the large families arent the smart people.. they are the breeders.. smart people plan their families and only have a few kids if any. there are exceptions to this no doubt but seems to me like the majority of intelligent genes are being bred out of the genepool. intelligence is very low on the list of requirements for a lot of people when choosing a mate.

I believe the opposite.

Intelligent, good looking, and wealthy people will marry each other.

Unintelligent, ugly or average looking, and low income people will marry each other.

Two distinct gene pools=2 different species of human beings...

The more unintelligent people there are in the world means there are more people making the rich richer.

A few 16 year old kids hopped up on raging teenage hormones do not set the standards of all internet debates.

People hide behind their anonymity on the net, so they tend to let off steam there rather than in real life.

It's a behaviour, not a sign of decreasing intelligence.

The human race is not devolving, in fact it is evolving faster than ever:

note: the word evolution in the scientific sense does not imply any betterment; it simply relates to biological changes that manifest to help a species adapt to specific conditions.
and no, intelligence is not genetical; biologically speaking, it is impossible to locate the origin of intelligence, heck, what the heck is intelligence anyway? so many definitions of it, which one of it is right? it'd take intelligence to recognize itself some say. but for sure we know we cannot recognize it empirically speaking.

hey guys...

when I said "devolved", I was talking in the intellectual sense.

I feel there are some finite measurable intellectual evolutions, such as abolition of slavery. Now, nobody can say that's not a step forward on our track through this world. Also, I think debate and reasoning are others.

Everyday, I just see more people going the other direction. Maybe we should get off the MTV juice and pick up a book again....hmmmmm :D

The way I look at it the human race was never that evolved anyway. We just like to flatter ourselves and think we are.

I mean I guess you could argue that we are an evolved virus that is slowly killing itself and everything around it. I might agree with you there. As the late Bill Hicks used to say "we're a virus with shoes".
