Devil's Advocate: Negative Aspects of MJ

So since no one really has the balls to say something, in their own honest opinion, regarding the negative effects of marijuana, can anyone of us, lovers of the plant, speak on what we feel may be some negative effects of marijuana!

I see it like a marriage. We all love Mary Jane but there's just some shit we don't like about her lol. Outside of external factors (gov't policy, high prices, grimy dealers), why does our ol' lady suck?

A few more words:
I think we all know and are immune to simple-minded, uneducated, and/or government-fed misconceptions and speculations. I want to know the TRUE negative aspects of this plant.

Sit down with your best nug and think about what you don't like!

well, i think worst part is the smoking that sometimes gives me trouble breathing properly. i know i should get a vapo and i am going to, but those g'dem things cost big bucks. also sometimes i tend to get a bit passive if a start smoking at the morning but that's why i mainly smoke at evenings after the days chores.

not much to say except I do procrastinate alot more with my friend mj than without her.
And I do forget stuff all the time
In fact, the negative aspect of pot for me is that it turns me into a pothead.
is that really so negative ?

well lets not beat about the bush, smoking anything is bad for you. Oral consumption is a much healthier (albeit less practical) alternative

Also, regular cannabis consumption doesn't do any favours for memory retention.

They're pretty much my only two gripes, but I'd say the positives outweigh the negs.

I was thinking of starting a thread like this too - a manual for new smokers of things they should expect.

A negative for me personally is it that it turns out that staying in and having a smoke is more fun than going to a bar and pretending to have fun with my friends. This means I socialize less and meet less new people. And drink less beer.

And the whole anxiety attacks whenever someone unexpected rings the doorbell is a bit of nuisance. Though that's more the issue of it's disproportionately severe legal status than a side-affect of smoking.

Cannabis itself isn't addicting, however, I believe that addictive personalities will find themselves "addicted" to marijuana.

These same people will find themselves addicted to candy bars, television, you name it.

Then of course there is the whole pothead aspect. I think if you're smoking it regularly, its got to be doing something to your enthusiasm, drive, goals, and so forth. As much as I love the herb, I wouldn't want to be stoned all day, every day, because it might not effect my performance, but personally I don't feel comfortable like that.

I find that I lose some of my natural "out-going" nature, and socializing (especially with folks who aren't stone(d)(ers)...) is more difficult if my consciousness is adjusted by MJ. I tend to not smoke before going out to social events because of this, at least put off smoking until I get a good feel for the event and whether there is a potential for getting adjusted and being comfortable. It really isn't a problem though.

for me
1.it makes me more reclusive..doesnt matter if its indica or sat
2.i cant really retain boring information that doesnt really interest me..bad for university.
3.mary makes it easier for me to procrastinate.

theirs really no sweeping generalized negative effect for everyone. it effects different people differently. some people go down the shitter smoking weed all day, and some people smoke weed all day and live successful lives. depends on the person. the only generalized downside to smoking weed is the social stigma attached to it thats still perpetuated by the ignorant majority.

I always thought that the short term memory loss was an underated negative effect. I think that if you have trouble remembering, you have trouble learning. And jeez...to not be able to learn as well as you could have can be serious. What if you fail to learn something that keeps you out of trouble, or fail in school?

does that make any sense to anyone else? am I going out on a limb?

Great replies guys.

I think the key is to find the strain and amount that suits the individual... and dont accept the garbage weed and soapbar on offer.

Not cool for school but it sure opens your mind.

Negatives: Laziness, Paranoia, Short term memory loss
Positives: Relaxes, Stimulates the brain and senses, Pain relief and other medicinal qualities, Inspiration, Cuts through the bullshit (do not confuse with paranoia), Tastes and smells awesome

All the above vary immensly on the strain and amount consumed and frame of mind/social situation of the individual.

I noticed that I started regarding other smokers as 'friends', and non-smokers as 'acquaintances'...

1. it can make me a pig
2. it can make me lazy
3. it can make me paranoid
4. it can make me stay in when i planned on going out

It can do these things, but that is usually when i do too much. It also really depends on the strain and the setting... for example if im on an empty stomach and I drink a cup of strong coffee with a bag of dense black spice vapor first thing in the morning... that's a recipe for racing heart and a panic attack....
