dehumidifier problem

I have this DH that was left from the previous homeowner. I have used it in the past and in the growroom for the past week w/o any problems. After looking at the unit, I realized the spout that puts water into the bin, is threaded and a garden hose works perfectly. So I attach my garden hose and let it drain back into the rez. Perfect

RH is down to 55 today with unit running non-stop, room temp stays at 78-79. Problem is the unit seems to be condensating on the outside and putting water everywhere. Luckily it was up on another unused table so it wasnt a big deal. But that is not a long term solution. Why is it getting condensation on one small part of the frame? Is it due to it running nonstop now? Before, it would shut off because the bin was full.

Theres also a very small part of the frame that is pretty cold, which is weird. The room is 78-79 and the rest of the unit is warm.

Any insight into this? If its not one thing, its another.

i do think it's from running non-stop. they should be able to run continuous but i've had a similar prob. i bought a bigger dehum.

are you running a sealed room?

Could be it has a defect from the manufacturer. It should be able to run non-stop with no problems. What could be the problem is the insulation in the unit is missing in certain spots. You could try to insulate it yourself. Hope this helps, let us know.

So as I understand it the thing is running continuously and water is condensing on the outside of the unit? If your rh is 55% and the dehumidifier is set at normal, it should run till it gets down to about 45. If it's a Whirlpool like mine, it has a normal, dry, maximum dry, and continuous mode. It should cycle in every mode except continuous provided it has reached the low level it's set at. If it's not, then it's worn out that feature, hehe.

Might be time to replace it. I do the same thing with the hose draining back into the res. I got tired of taking the 5 gallon jug it emptied into and just pouring it into the res so I swung the hose over to my 3x6 tray and now the res has stabilized.

its probably part of the dehumidifier design that isn't so great. They get cold so they can pull the water out of the air - maybe its not insulated that well.

If this unit was so great - why was it left behind? Might be time to grab your choice equipment.

My room is setup this way to. I havent noticed any thing like what your describing, maybe some pictures might help.. Sounds like there is something going on there, so might want to take it apart a bit and find out.

looked at it again just now, and it seems like the area right above the container is getting cold. Then the water drips down. Seems simple enough to pull the covers off so I will maybe tomorrow morning. Lights go off at 11:00 AM so it has to be done before I leave.

I was in Home Depot and saw an LG unit with digital controls and you can set the unit to a certain RH%. cost was 219. Good or bad?

The LG unit you speak of is the same one I have. I found a refurbished one on ebay for almost 1/2 the price you just listed and it comes drop-shipped strait from LG. It has a timer option built in as well. I have mine on 2 hours, off 2 hours and set at 50%. Humidity rarely rises to 60% during the off hours. If I ran it continuous I'm sure it would work much better, but I like the fact that it is only on 12 hours or less a day.
