A week! How irritable would you become if you smoked everyday for forty plus years, then stopped?

Give up a number of times for the urine tests, other than like you said boredom and being little pissed off about not being able to smoke is the most I've experienced. Think the longest I've not smoked for was about 6 weeks in the last 15 years. It's not an addiction in any sense.

So my understanding is that MJ promotes the release of dopamine.
If a person uses MJ every day and suddenly stops is the brain in a dopamine deficit?
I wonder if it takes a bit to recover?
It usually takes me about three days to get over the grumpiness.
Does that constitute addiction?

Opiates are the only drug that's truly physically addictive, causing you all sorts of pain and misery when you quit. That said, all sorts of things are addictive. Sex is addictive, food is addictive. For me coffee is physically addictive, I get a terrible headache for a couple of days when I quit. It's strange because I didn't get that when I was younger. Of course I think cannabis is addictive. I smoked everyday for years. When I'd quit I'd have trouble sleeping, my brain would go on overload. When I'm smoking cannabis I don't remember my dreams, when I'd quit they'd be super intense and colorful almost too much to bear. The desire to smoke would be strong. If I wasn't quitting for a good reason and had a decent amount of willpower stored up I'd just light up some more ganja.

My advice to anyone struggling with cannabis 'addiction'. Get over it. Find something to do, come home tired every day. The best cure for sleeplessness is a tired body. Be glad you're not addicted to heroin or cigarettes and experiencing some real misery..

Cannabis "addiction" is mental not physical. I can drop smoking whenever i want to even if i still have some bud in the jar, thou i'd prefer to smoke about every day from early morning till bed time in the evening.
..haven't smoked in few days just because i can't bother to fix the old bong hit with my busted up hand. No withdrawal symptoms at all.
But people are different.

Since it's non-addictive, the answer is exactly the same. A 'long-time' has zero additional effect vs. a 'short-time' of use.

You get a little less tolerant (more like the intolerant 'sober' public around you), and sometimes your sleep might be less restful for a bit. The same as has been repeated in the thread a few times.
