I rented this beastly excavator and dug up 12 holes yesterday. Didn't have many problems with boulders. Looks like I'm going to have to hand fill the baskets because its a delicate process. I hired a guy to help me fill them. If we can fill em up in decent time I'll dig 12 more holes asap.

She was a pleasure to operate. Got 8 hours logged on her. Took a bit to get use to driving but ended up getting it down and had some fun :D

I'm learning about these Oregon vole mouses I'm having to deal with at this site. They burrow all over the field and damage crops if you don't have hardware cloth cylinders. Anyone else ever deal with them?

Go get the fumigant called the giant destroyer. Put one in every surface hole. It will just keep the numbers reduced and keep them at bay. I have a family member that has tried to get rid of them for years but they always come back after a while.
Ive never seen it used near a garden though.

It trips me out how the pH of our well water is 6.1 compared to 8.0 ph for most of the wells on the valley floor. I think they are drilled into limestone below sea level. Up here on the mountain at near 500ft elevation our well is drilled 190ft deep so were still over 300ft above sea level.

The well water guys told us were 90% full right now when they replaced the pump last week. Were going to try and have it tested again if possible during late summer to see how full it is then so we can see if we have enough to expand the grow next year.

I'm guessing the water is plentiful around here seeing that our neighbors have over 50 acres of vineyards growing around us. I'm curious about what kind of geology causes the water to be at 6.1 pH and if there is some sort of upwelling of water from below.

What tripped me out is your waters tds is only 19 ppm! How could it possibly be that low from a well?

Your property looks amazing dude! Hope.you kill it this year. I'll be watching from the sidelines :lurk:

Ok I'll keep that in mind. I've noticed over the years that their populations spike on certain years. I read that poising them is the most effective way to control them since they reproduce so quickly. Its a trip how some properties don't have the vole mice on their property around here but then some do...like us.

Yeah the low ppm is interesting. A few days ago I tested the water from another pad on the mountaim a few miles away and it was just as low! The pH was slightly higher though like 6.4. I'm not sure how the mountain does it. I'm guessing a good filtration system in the aquifer like loads of rocks.

My buddy on the adjacent mountain has a well drilled 100 ft below sea level and they are getting a whopping 1800ppm and 8.0 pH. My other buddy on the valley floor is getting 8.0 pH and under 100 ppm. So it varies a bit around here.

I agree. The property I'm talking about is old horse grazing land. It has a horse pasture in use really close, I always felt it has something to do with this.

hows all the digger work going farmer ? looking forward to seeing your season .

Its been a hell of a time. We have 10/12 filled. And I tilled up last years 4. So right now we have 14 tilled and amended with organics. Were suppose to knock out the other 2 tomorrow. Then I got to finish the fence and dig 12 more holes with the excavator.

I'm running behind schedule but I gotta get all 24 holes done this year so next year it will be already done and I can focus on getting the plants bigger earlier in the season. I'm planning to plug 12 medical and 4 recreational plants by may 15th and the other 12 medical asap.... Hoping early June at latest.

The guy I hired and myself have been shoveling our asses off. It takes 2 hours for one person to fill each hole. Its been a good workout but thank god I got some help.

Its like you are describing my location! Its an old horse pasture and the neighbors still have horses on their pasture. I wonder why the horses bring them in. Any ideas?

Horse Feed. Ask me how I know...

Watching Mr. Danks. Love me some Oregon outdoor!

Horse feed aye.... That sounds probable! How do you know?

On another note, yesterday I rented an auger with an 8" bit and got the last 10 fence post holes dug. That was fun. I'm gonna work on getting the fence posts in today. I'm building H braces on the corners with 5-6" 8' fence posts.

Yeah no doubt, me and two other folks got a garden started on Saturday after it laying fallow since October & I'm still sore two days later. I have no idea how many cubic meters of soil we mixed, but it was a lot.

Hell yeah! Great work! How you watering them girls? Do you have a grow thread? your plants look nice and big.

I finally got my fence raised and privacy barrier up. Its holding up well. Well see how the season goes. I'm so damn glad all that fence work is over. I built the whole thing myself with no help. The neighbors dog comes over to hang out all day when I throw dirt clods for him to chase. He's chill, I'll get a pic of the pooch sometime.

My plants are ready to hit the soil soon. I'm going to transplant soon. Now I just need to set up the irrigation and get the first 16 plants in. I still need to finish filling 12 more holes. Probably won't finish filling them until June sometime. Oh well. At least it'll be done for next year.

We have hoses out in the garden for watering, but I'm only very partially responsible for any of those plants so I just thought I'd stick some photos of whats going on very roughly nearby in your thread.
The little sprouts & clones on my roof are doing OK after the rough weather, once I get a handle on which ones are the real survivors I guess I should start taking pictures of them too, but they're just barely enough for a small sprout sandwich now.
It looks like you've been getting your transplants accustomed to real sunlight, that should give them a little head start. You have a nice sized garden, hopefully those plants take advantage & get as big as you want them to.

This thread is in need of an update. So I finally filled all the baskets and got all 28 plants in. 12 are 3 weeks behind the ones I planted first on may 19th.

Here's a photo of a bigger mkob #7. She starting to swallow her basket.

Here is a photo of the upper dozen 10 days ago. I'll get an updated one soon. They aren't the biggest plants but they are healthy and perky :D
