Curing and cooking...?

So I was looking through this months W.C.C. and I saw a recipe for cannabis lemon squares:)yummy:), I have Kali's drying in the closet and plan on making butter with some of it but I'm wondering if I should cure my buds before I cook with them? Sorry if this question has been answered before, I did a search and didn't find anything.

Its not nessisary. I recomend doing a water bath before making butter anyways so curing would be pointless imo. I've also made butter without fully drying it too, so why wait? Mmmmmmm..... cannabis lemon squares sound so good!

Care to share the recipie????

Sure thing:D
1 cup quick rolled oats, uncooked
1 cup flour
1/2 flaked coconut
1/2 cup coarsely chopped pecans
1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 cup cannabis butter, melted
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice (I gently roll the lemon on the counter before I cut and squeeze it, it makes more juice)
1 Tbs. grated lemon rind

Preheat oven to 350 (325 if using a glass dish) In a medium bowl, combine oats, flour, coconut, nuts, sugar, baking powder and cannabis butter; stir to form a crumbly mixture. Set aside.
In a medium bowl, combine sweetened condensed milk, lemon juice and rind.
Pat half of crumb mixture evenly on bottom of a 9 x 9 inch baking dish. Spread sweetened condensed milk mixture on top then sprinkle with remaining crumbs.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool thoroughly before cutting into squares.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the quick reply Lil!

The important thing is to heat the herb to 325 for five minutes before extracting it to convert the goodies to active thc, this will increase potency 50-100% over not heating the herb first, no shit. It will stink, this is just terpenes, not thc that you smell.

I've never pre heated my herb prior to making butter. I've never had a complaint with its potency...... in fact its plenty potent! I can understand doing this if your making a tincture.

bake before baking to get extra baked?

idk...

I would just water cure. 7 day soak, and that will cure it anyways. I know it works great to smoke stealth smoke(no taste, no smell, smoove as eggss). Plus I've heard that it makes pretty clean tasting butter too, all the high, no taste.... hmmm Get whoever high, and they would NEVER be able to tell.

Yer jus using the trichs/oil, I don't see why it would need to be cured. Besides, Lil o' Her said it works fine, I'd trust her, she's a straight shooter.

So uhhmm, when are these lemon bars gonna be done... :kissass: have I ever told ya Sativa, lemon bars are one of my all time favoriteses, ever, in the whole wide world?.... :yummy: lol... Enjoy. Take care... BC

Lil, how many batches over how many years does your cooking weed experiments cover? You are wrong, doing it your way, you lose a minimum of 25% of your potential potency. How do I know this? From monthly experiments for several years, including using the same herb preheated and not preheated, and testing the results myself. I always got stoned on the unheated batches, just not enough, or I had to eat more. I even thought it might just be me. But once I started preheating to 325 for 5 minutes, there is no comparison. You do what you like, but do not tell others they do not need to do it right please. If you test it, you will like it, and understand my persistance.

what do you mean by preheat Haps? do you literally bake the buds in the oven (on a cookie sheet?), and then you cook them in butter/water like normal?

Also, have you ever tried to water cure your buds before you cook with them in order to make a butter with little to no taste by any chance ( I was wondering how it works, before I try it out)?

haps can you explain how double baking differs from single baking?
kinda makes sence if you were just to eat raw weed, but double baking doesnt really add up.

Gosh.... I couldn't give you a number of how many batches I've made. But I started cooking with cannabis a little more than 3 years ago. I never said that your way was wrong bro. Im just saying thats how I've have done it and realy dont feel a need for my butter to be more potent. No need to get all defensive.

In all honesty, I haven't made a batch of cannabutter with trimmings and buds in at least 6 months. I started making my butter with bubble hash and haven't looked back. I let it go in the crock pot for a couple of hours on low. Am I loosing any potency with this method, Haps?

Lil, I do not mean to be critical, think of it like this, if you roll a joint do you smoke it all, or toss it out when it is half or two thirds done? That is a fair comparison. It seems logical that since we heat the herb with the butter, or milk in my case, that the thc conversion would take place, but in my testing time after time, it did not seem to be happening although I was making pretty heady edibles, it just wasn't full strength, so I kept reading here, and testing.

I use a toaster oven, and after grinding the bud, I heat the pan to 325, then put the herb in it for five minutes then take it out, and it is ready to use. It makes a stink like a pot party, so keep that in mind, the room will be way cool for a while, this is just terps boiling off, I usually take a hit anyway, hehe. I tried 300 and 315 and it seemed to be less potent, and I got the 325 temp from some other thread here, and was just following it. If you are doing a big pan, you need about ten minutes, and do not worry you are not loosing your thc, you are converting more of it.

Try it, you folks who do edibles, and tell us what you think, it kicks my ass. I make milk, cause butter is a pain in the ass and milk is easy and dosing is simple, I just freeze doses.

To the water cure question, I am not a fan of water curing, because it did not work for me, twice I managed to get moldy weed, not water cured, so I gave up. And it washes trics off, whereas my curing goals are to keep all the trics on. Besides, my buds taste heavenly, once sweetened, so does my cannamilk. Happy buds folks.

I went back and reread, Lil, I do not know about bubble hash, but it would not take heating well, so I think not, but I have never had bubble hash, I can't smoke all my finger hash and dry sift, hehe.

And I reread the double cooking question, and I will say I also thought cooking would do the trick, and to some extent it does, but not completely or reliably, or so it seemed to me. I would love to hear what other folks experience from their work. My milk has OD cababilities, every batch, and a trippy dose costs less than 10 bucks a pop, figured at retail prices. And with my doses, I am usually still high the following day, which can be fun or inconvenient. Cool hobby, wish I could pass out shots of cannamilk to toast with.

Simmer the whole milk, no water, with the weed, for about an hour. Best if it does not boil, and a little more time is OK, and letting it soak and cool over night is also OK. After pressing the milk out, add water back to it, reheat at low temp, then restrain for a slightly weaker treat, then add water and repeat. I like the milk cause it digests easily so I get higher. Experiment, have fun, learn, happy halloweeeen!
