Creating a seedline from my favourite sative - ZamalHaze

Hiya Mosca. Some lovely work guys, love to see plenty of Colombian genes doing the rounds. Very nice B52 too, looks like a good yielder.

Here's my latest plant to be harvested, she is the Blueberry pheno Blueberry x ZamalHaze at 10 weeks, beautiful buds, one of the nicest lookign sativas I've grown I think; only issue with her is her weak stems, in definite need of tying up. The Zamal pheno looks even nicer, but I'll save that one for later!

Hi Camacho, I bet she would be even better in the south of Spain with full sun outdoors. The buds are hang drying now, pics to follow when they are dry,

Wow, you and Elevator Man have really inspired me! After reading a lot sativa threads here, and this thread specifically, I had to buy some beans. The FMX Zamal X Skunk Special to be exact. I'll definitely be popping them the second the show up and starting a grow diary. I can only hope that you or EM can drop by and maybe help me with my 1st real sativa grow, any tips would be greatly appreciated.

hey - I have put pics of the carrot/mango North Indian mountain sativas in a thread limeygreen started called "North Indian" and related strains
Very nice info re the differences between jungli and dataa, Ngakpa, many thanks!
Is this the link you gave? Couldn't see pics...

How do you reckon us westerners would describe the two (jungli/dataa) in our terms?
Broadleaf indica-leaning and small sativa-leafed, or something else?

You say "Pahari" people. What sort of area is that then?

Hiya Dr Seuss. Very glad to hear we have inspired someone to try out some sativa genes. There is a very good Zamal x Skunk Special grow thread here on icmag, some of them were pretty similar to the ZamalHaze I grew. I still have packs of Zamal x Skunk Special and Zamal x Grapefruit by Female Seeds plus Zamal x Warlock from Gerrit and pure Zamal from Gypsy so I will be playing around with more Zamal genes soon.

Hiya Gertie - I don't want to sidetrack BH's thread too much, though I know he's not the kind of guy who will mind at all... I guess we can consider this part of the mango/carrot diversion

sorry about the pics - I had a real parnoia attack and took them all down

the dataa and the jungli (junglee) are I think both what we would call 100% pure sativas - narrow-leaved, acclimatised to high rainfall and pretty high humidity - ... the two distinct strains grow within the same valleys, often only a couple of hundred metres apart, but appear to remain very distinct

dataa can go to 3m or more, jungli not much more than 2m.... jungli is much lower yielding with big internodes, and stonger aromas - makes the good "marl" ("stuff")

I see them both as cultivars - almost all guys (and plenty of ladies too) in Pahari regions smoke and have a patch of jungli as well as gardens of farm plants - and they are very conscious of which jungli plants are the right ones for producing the best charas

the jungli has darker smaller seeds, quite mottled often - very potent plants - even just smoking the rubbed dried calyxes of seeds it'll have you out on your ears for hours... the environment definitely helps of course - a friend of mine got stung by a nettle there, and the sting was agonising, the numbness and pain lasted for several days... in my mind that seems linked to the fiendishness of the dope

the dataa has massive plain lighter seeds - it is a food plant too, much higher yielding plants, but narrow leaved also - similar aromas, similar high, but not quite as prized for charas (though everyone will use it for that of course)

Pahari as far as I know means "of/from the mountain", though it is a specific ethnic group and group of languages - you will find Pahari villages throughout Nepal, and in the Indian Himalaya west of there also, as far as the edge of Eastern Punjab... generally they look more Nepalese than Indian, but people round such areas are often a real mix... there are faces up there that you wouldn't where to place if they were shown you at random - blue eyes with Mongol eye-folds, some very white skinned, though more often a red kind of colour etc.

I just checked wikipedia and their article makes it sound like Pahari is just a language group, which is misleading - Pahari is also an ethnic identity, with plenty of subgroupings... according to wiki you can also find Pahari languages spoken in Kashmir and parts of the NWFP

anyway, enough rambling, cheers

Cheers for that ngakpa!
I actually noticed for the first time that there's a whole state between UP and HP, which I'd somehow completely missed till now - seems quite linked with the Pahari!
Also interesting how the two cultivars appear to co-exist without cross-contamination!

Sorry for the hijack, Hempire
Resume normal service now on this great thread of yours!

When the discussion is so informed and interesting, it isn't hijacking at all, thanks guys, I enjoy reading this stuff, I am always on the hunt for new pieces of cannabis knowledge.

I know that the Zamal variety Gypsy obtained in La Reunion and from which the Zamal in my ZamalHaze comes, originated with a breeder called Christophe who says that it was brought from Madagascar by slaves 200 years ago. I a not sure if this hints to an African origin or if the origin could be southern India, there are certainly some types of Zamal that do originate in India.

Here are some shots of the Zamal pheno Blueberry x Zamalhaze I just took today, 66 days into 12/12. The buds are largrer and more dense than the ZamalHaze, and there is a good deal more resin too. I need to see some more plants grown otu to see what other individuals pop up before being sure, but I think this is the Zamal pheno and will be used as one of the parents to make the F2s.

Just started checking out this thread, I love sativas so I had to. Too bad about the hermies bro. The zemal seems a bit like some bag seed I grew, ended up with a pungent lemony aroma when broken up, took for ever to show sex, grew little buds EVERY WHERE. Doubt it was the same thing, just brought back memories of my first grow from reading this. . .

The Blueberry pheno is dry now and I have sampled and all I can say is wow, after a whole day puffing on SSSDH and Cg x GFB f2, this froze my brain immediately, a whole notch higher in potency, could be the strongest sativa I've grown bar the pure ZamalHaze, and could be even stronger than her, I am insanely high right now as a result. The taste is delicious too, sweet and smooth and quite fruity, you can taste both parents, can't wait to see what she tastes like after a good cure.

Cheers Bacchus. She has the yield and bud formation of the Blueberry but the ZamalHaze has really added some kick to her high. I might not keep her if the Zamal pheno turns out as nice as it is looking. It has noticeably added extra frost in the last few days, and as sativas pack on resin in the last coupkle of weeks, and she has about two weeks left, she will probably be the keeper as she looks amazing.

Fascinateing thread BH.
Will pop a pack of zamal x skunk in a few days and have been looking at the Gypsy Zamal on SB for a bit of an indoor challenge , plenty of headroom as long as they can manage with relatively low light levels for as long as they want.

Have had good results with jock horror and some hazes , would you consider the zamal to need direct light or would mostly sidelighting suffice ?

Have had some plants that react badly and tend to hermie and i guess most zamals are going to be prone to it.

Hey BH and all others

Great thread  threads like this are the reason why i'm here

Your ZH x BB looks delicious :joint: shame about the hermie traits...

My Girlfriend's into the Zamals too, she's putting some Zamal x Skunk Special and Zamal x Nevils Haze in flower this week, zamal x warlock are still in the fridge :)

We're planning to make some crosses with skunk#1 and mandala's hashberry, gonna post some pics when it gets to it...

So long, keep up the good work :joint:
