cravin morehead's bio-buckets

Bio buckets are very similar to HEATHS buckets correct? Heaths just have the additional above flow and more media in the top

Take a look at Tokinsmokin's set up with bio buckets. He was never able to finish the grow, but it was set up perfectly.

Hey Craven, I don't have any links to mine no.
I had a little problem with just getting over the limit with my pump. There was a 2ft lift on my water from the top of the buckets and the milk carton they were on to raise them off the floor.
I had 3 buckets and 15g of water in a reservoir and the 2ft severely dropped my GPH :( (I now use a 1200gph Mag Drive)

That's the only reason I had a little concern :)

Just passin on the knowledge bro :)

I'll keep poppin in, and I just might put my new Tree grow im starting in 2 weeks up!

good lookin' man!! you were right, i f'ed up my head height calcs. i forgot to add the distance from the valves to the top of the buckets. but, luckily, i'm within my pump limits still... WHEW!!! i'm still getting 13.25 x's per hour minimum (based on a 2' head, i have less than 2') and actually less than 40 gallons total. if i ever rebulid this set-up, i would definitly run a way over sized pump like you did. i for sure cut that alot closer than i had wanted to.

hey, please post your bio tree grow. there is not nearly enough documented bio-grows. how long have you been running bio's? any tips? which nutes are you running?

my cuts are just starting to show roots, not bad, 8 days. so i'll probably drop them in the system by the end of the week. my systems water is just starting to feel 'slick'. i can't wait...

thanks for the info and interest,

cm

This is my 2nd Bio Grow starting now, I ran H&G Aqua Flakes 2 Part.

This grow I am vegging 2 Vanilla Kush and 1 Super Bud to about 2.5 - 3 ft.. There about 2 now.
Then throwing them into 3 5g Bio's! :)

i don't have many more pics yet, but heres a couple more:

this is one of those window fans with a programmable t-stat. i taped off all of the little lights on the face of it

i placed in between the buckets facing up. i wanted to put it below the buckets, but was afraid if there was a leak it could lead to a fire. so this is my compromised position. i set it to go on when temps reach 76*f. it shuts off at around 74*f. (sorry about pic quality, shot through the window on the tent.

so far, its maintaining temps very well. i have my 6" light exhaust set at about 3/4 power. the 4" fan is running at 3/4 power also. seems to keep temps in control nicely

the pen written 'in/out' are inside the tent and outside of the tent...

alright, i showed you mine, lets see yours! wait, that doesn't sound right. you know what i mean...

i've put my first 2 clones into the system. i'll wait a couple of days before putting them all in. just to make sure everything is ok. im running dyna foliage pro at .8 ec. ph is sitting at just under 7.0. still need to insulate the buckets. its getting hot around here, supposed to be hitting almost 90* next few days. hows that for a trial by fire!!

You are going to need a water chiller. I would hate to be the person to try and clean these systems between runs. This is very important if you want the system to last as constantly rebuilding replacing sucks after a while. It is also important to use the right type of plastics so you do not leach chemicals over time either.

A better formula is the bloom formula from Dynagro as opposed to the foliage pro which is not a good ratio and will need cal/mag and lots of it. Dynagro Bloom can be used for veg and all the way through about 2nd week of flower.

Good luck!

well before insulating the buckets, water temps never reached higher than 72*f. since insulating, i've yet to see temps reach 70*f. sounds good to me. if need be, down the road, i have a nice chiller just chillin in the garage. i also think, using a cooler (ice chest) for a res. is helping with the temps. so does placing that cooler in front of the a/c with fans blowing cool, filtered air into the res.

care to elaborate on dyna? if bloom is only good through 2 weeks of flower, then what? buy some more bullshit? not gonna happen. i've run these exact nutes many times with good results. thats why i chose them. i'm also tired of mixing and matching all this bullshit together. thats why i'm running something that i know is simple and works well. i run on 100ppm 7.4 ph tap water, still need cal/mag?? not trying to argue, just want simple.

cleaning the system is easy, a little h202, the right bottle brushes, a little elbow grease, fill and drain a few times. done easy...

lol you're supposed to clean?!?!? i havent cleaned mine yet. ive been running it (for veg only) for a few months now and havent done anything but add water and nutes. i love these things. kinda like set it and forget it.. anyhow peace

I ran my old aquaponic system (which was a dwc/bio tub hybrid) non-stop, without cleaning or even shutting it off, for about 5 and a half years.

The way I look a it, a properly set up bio system should be maintained as you would a fish tank.

Nice looking set up. Ideal water temps really should be 68F.
I ran into some heat issues, still pulled 9 zips off this girl.
If you have any questions, just ask, I used to go by the name Rule35sub1. I have a bunch of old bio bucket and bio tub threads from back in 05 thru 07 here. My latest design is a bio bucket/under current hybrid.

Sounds like you got it ALL figured out. Have used BOTH foliage pro and the bloom formula as I am a huge fan of Dynagro products and have used them for more than 10 years now. The bloom formula has a much better ratio than the foliage pro for the type of plants your going. And yes, after 2 weeks of flower the plan calls for you to buy LOTS of BS....lol

Dont worry I will not bother you with suggestion again. I was not aware that you knew it all.

Good luck

i never said i did. i simply responded to what you were saying with my observations and answers. i did actually put some thought into this before i built it. it was drawn out and reconfigured many times before i actually started buying/building.

me too. except, my last experience was about 6 years ago. maybe something changed since then, i don't know, just going by my personal experience.

And yes, after 2 weeks of flower the plan calls for you to buy LOTS of BS....lol

how would i know it isn't? you didn't care to finish giving out your technique. all the other "great formulas" seem to involve a bunch of other BS. i'm tired of that, i wanted a simple 1 part formula for a change. so, i went for one that worked great for me in the past. granted, i am using foliar pro for the first time as per a suggestion i got from here. i used to use GROW.

like i stated in this post before, i don't know any other growers. so, because of that fact, i have to figure all this shit out myself. i love having suggestions, maybe i came off a little harsh. sorry. however, do not let my post count fool you, i've been gowing my own since jr. high school, over 25+ years. i've tried a bunch of indoor/outdoor methods.
so, feel free to post in this thread again, maybe we can come to better understanding of each other. i am not here trying to be the man, just a man with a good head on his shoulders.

ok. now we got that takin care of...

hey kal el- i read a bunch of your posts when i started thinking of this system. glad to have you! feel free to post all you want. do you think 70* water may be a problem? i thought, if it ever reached 72* again, i would add my chiller.

oldman and RM- i figured on cleaning between rounds, but like you guys stated, i figured it should run more like a fish aquarium. the main reason i went with bio-buckets was because of the set it and forget aspect. i'm starting to get really busy at work again. yesterday was 9 hours at one jobsite, 7am-4:30pm. then started at another jobsite from 7pm-3:30am. so my time for posting here will be limited. but, i will keep this thread as up to date as possible. like i said, this is my only way to get bio-bucket grower knowledge. so, please help me keep this going. feel free to put up your grows and observations if you would like.

bagata- im with you "BRING BACK THE BIO BUCKET!!!! " i think it might be exactly what i , and many others, are looking for in hydroponics...
