Crap - Insurance Co. wants to inspect house

G

Guest

Sh*t... :badday:

Got a call yesterday from insurance co. (not my agent, the actual company).

My house insurance is up for renewal June, and they insist on doing a full house inspect before they'll renew policy.
:fsu:
Almost 20 yrs. with them - never made a claim.

He's coming in Tues a.m. - guess I'm gonna hafta move my gro, and clean the hell outta my house. My missus sez her friend just had same thing, and they swabbed all kinds of areas in house.

Hope that's just mold they're lookin' for, cause a pot swab on me or my possessions would blow up their testing machine.

Crap... :badday:

It's something to consider - I do have an outdoor shed at the back of my yard, maybe I could stick everything in there...

i would just want to be on the safe side, as if they found some plants, or anything of the sort it wouldn't be good.

I wouldn't put it in the shed...if its on your property they might wanna even check the shed too. I'd say the uhaul idea is a good one.

And yet again, I say "Crap"... :badday:

Thanks y'all - it really helps getting a non panicky opinion (or 2, or 3, or 4...)

You haven't made a claim in 20 years. Do you really need insurance? lol
What do you value more, growing or paying for something you're never gonna cash in on.
I say tell the insurance company to take a hike. :)

I second that, definitely shop around at the very least, you might be pleasantly surprised. Their competition knows of your claim history as well, bargain with it. In the mean time, ensure that 'somthing comes up' next tues.

Exactly.. the insurance business is cut throat to begin with so theres no reason you have to take any kind of shit. Call em back and tell them they can look all they want from the outside [ considering I dont think theres any law stating they are allowed in the house in the first place.] .. otherwise just go ahead and switch.

I had my insurance guy mail me a letter telling me I had to get the eaves of my house painted and my gutters fully repaired before they would renew on my policy. I called him back asking if he was positive that thats the way he wanted to do business with me. He gave me some crap line how the company was 'reviewing' all their policies the same way. I politely told him he was full of shit because I knew damn well it wasnt the 'company' that came over to look my house over and make that recomendation it was him. I also told him he could expect me to cancle by the the end of the week. I saved about $150 a year going with someone else.

WS,

As a businessman, I agree with saying :jerkit: to the insurance company. Tell them, after being with them 20 years, it may be time to shop for a better policy.

Let us know what you do!

didnt your misses friend inquire what thier swabn for i know i would have hum really dose sound strange. if your home is real old maybe swabn for lead paint or asbestos residue that would make more sense then anything honestly. how long have you lived in this home ??? every have any reported water damage ?? i really couldnt see a home owners insurance company swabing a home for traces of drug residue. unless you live in a erea where lots of grow houses or meth labs have been discovered i really couldnt see why esp after 20yrs with them.

Are you kidding? Mold is everywhere. It has been since the earth was formed and will be until the earth dies. There is mold in every home. People have evolved in parallel with mold so humans can live perfectly healthy with mold in their environment. If your insurance company is stupid enough to still believe in the mold myths (or more likely fiscal motivations) you definately need to switch to a company who is in the new millenium and doesn't believe such nonsense.

I love my parents...

They said I can stash all my stuff at their place, until the inspection is done.

I know - this breaks rule #1 (don't tell anyone), but my folks already knew I was growing, and they are cool, so....

Whew...

Thanks again guys for all your support - looks like this should be OK after all...

Peace and pot to y'all

Pathogenic, Toxic, or "Infectious" Mold

Mold in this group can cause infections in humans, including not only people at particular risk (such as those having a compromised immune system) but also people who are normal and healthy.

In most general terms I often include this group in my "Toxic mold" category below, but properly it is a separate group.

Some classes of pathogenic or infectious mold disease include (alphabetically):

* Blastomycosis
* Cryptococcus (from bird droppings), at primary risk are people with compromised immune system but normal adults can also be infected by inhalation of Cryptococcus neoformans, leading to a form of meningial encephalitis.
* Histoplasmosis (from bat droppings). This is the most commonly occurring infection in this group, caused by inhalation of Histoplasma capsulatum. In people with compromised immune system this can be a particularly dangerous infection.
* More Information below links to our full list of mold related illnesses and complaints.

Toxic mold can present serious health risk to humans or animals. Health effects may be temporary irritation or more serious longer term illness, immunosuppression, neurological disorders, or cancer. Mycotoxins can be produced by some fungal spores in humans or animals. Other fungal species are pathogenic, potentially causing serious illness in healthy individuals and presenting special concern for people who are at extra risk: individuals who are infant, elderly, immune-suppressed, undergoing chemotherapy, suffering from HIV/AIDS, or autoimmune disorders. When a toxic mold has been identified advice from a mold professional is appropriate. The average homeowner should not attempt to clean up this type of contamination.

They are rare, but do exist... I actually know someone who had to have guys in suits remove some toxic molds. Just make sure not to sniff bird or bat shit haha.... ah. :D

swabing your house,, over my dead body,, ANY asswipe who wants access to my huse better have a detailed GOOD reson for even asking,, or piss off,, this corperate shit has got to stop ,, they find ways to blackmail you into XYZ services,, insureance ECT the tell you they have all the rights and you have none,, time to fight back,,

When these people come you can tell them what is what. They will likely want to inspect the living areas. So any rooms that arean't living area will usually be ignored.

Anyway FUCK them. When did they gain ownship to your house. You can call them back and tell them when they can come inspect your house. If they don't like it tell them you will happily change to another insurance. Say you have a vacation planned or such.

Damn, you have some really understanding parents. That is really cool of them. Personally, I would tell the insurance company to fuck off and would go with someone else. They might want to make a habit of this nonsense. Is this going to cause you to kill any plants or fuck up your clones?
