Cracked capacitor?!?

Top of the mornin to ya folks. Quick question. One of these $10 used 150W HPS lights I bought has a cracked capacitor. The light works fine. Can I just tape this baby up, or use Liquid Electrical Tape to seal it good, and just move on? Damn things cost nearly 50 bucks off the web!

Any suggestions, advice, tips, etc. greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I would seal it up real nice with the liquid electrical epoxy. That crack isn't really that bad. I'd just repair it but I would be careful and would test it quite a bit before trusting it without being there to supervise it while running.

Thanks B420, that was my inclination, but not knowing much about this stuff, figured couldn't hurt to ask. I'll give it a whirl, and test it on a day I have off from work, or better yet, maybe a two day weekend to make sure it's okay. It will be remotely removed from the heat of the light anyways.

Thanks man!

no prob. I would definitely do the two day weekend test, but I am quite paranoid about these types of things.

I'm gonna call the dude I got these lights from tomorrow, see if he has a couple more. At 10 bucks a pop, I may buy a couple just for spare parts if I can.

Thanks again,

Ya think so Frank? Makes sense. I'll play around with it later this week, see where I get. Always playing with junk cause I can't afford new!

Hey, how does an old fart/IC Mag newbie get with you f.u.c.k.e.m. dudes? Do I qualify being from NYS? Heck, I just like the name of the group! ;>})
